Have you watched this video about Local Adjustments?

If not it may help you.

    Hi Grant,
thank you for your answer. I watched this tutorial, but I cannot reproduce it. I don't know what is wrong. I choose new layer, draw mask, then tried to draw something, but nothing happens. The little point shows up in the picture for the layer, and that's all. When i choose the fill mask option on the layer it works, and i am able to erase mask but when i go back to draw, i cannot draw, nothing happens. I am confused. I try to figure out what doing wrong but I don't know what should I do.

I found it! I installed the previous version (8.1.1) and it works. Then reinstall the update, masking not working again. So i start using the old version. But the old version cannot see the 8.2.1 Catalog... well, I don't know what to do.

    That seems strange.

I think you should create a Support Case and get the C1 Technical Support team to help you analyse what is happening.

I have exactly the same problem. And more, auto mask on/ off doesnt work either. It doesn't change at all. I watched all tutorials I could find but I can't reproduce it either.

Check the Preferences > Appearance - Local Adjustments

setting just to make sure the opacity has not been set to zero somehow.

I'm not sure what you are expecting with Auto Mask. However the first question to eliminate is whether you are using a Fuji camera where the sensor, being non-Bayer array, is not currently supported for Auto Mask.

If you are not using Fuji but are editing RAW files the second question to ask is do you have a clear understanding about how the Auto Mask feature works and the situations in which it is unlikely to be able to function?

If you feel you are comfortable with a full understanding of what should be happening then I would suggest creating a Support Case and asking Technical Support fo come up with some suggested resolutions.

    HTH.

Similar to Grant I'm not understanding clearly what's the problem. Perhaps it would help to inform what you're trying to attempt.

Normally the steps are easy and straight forward: 1) Create an adjustment layer (layer / clone layer / heal layer); 2) draw a mask (for example draw mask / gradient mask) - which will tint the reffered area red (as long as "Always dispaly mask" is active") as well as brush size isn't very small and/or opacity isn't set to zero; 2a) if necessary modify the area definitions with the erase brush; 3) perform the desired tweakings; 4) if necessary repeat the previous steps for different areas / other tweakings.

I'm having exactly the same problem.

A Clone/Heal layer both work perfectly. I see what I have brushed onto the image - with Only Display Mask when Drawing selected, of course.

But, a simple Adjustment Layer does not work.

    1. I do not see the mask when I'm drawing. However, as soon as I release the mouse, the orange dot appears on the image, indicating that I have done something.

    2. Then, making sure that Layer 1 is highlighted, when I try to make an adjustment to what I've just brushed in (e.g. Exposure) nothing happens. I see the spinning wheel at the top of the screen, that's all.

    I'm Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit.

Along with the disappearing RGB readouts when the spot removal tool is used, and the freezing Colour Picker in the Colour Tool after about a dozen selections are made (which I've written about in another thread) this is a rather buggy release of C1. A quick fix would be greatly appreciated. 😉

    Thanks.

Please report your version of CO8. If it is not 8.2.2, please update and try again.

Also, please report the kind of image file you are working, regarding the auto mask feature. Not all file types are supported.

Can you confirm/deny that your issues apply to CO Pro 8.2.2?

    Paul,

If I check for Updates in Help, (by click on Check for Updates when the window opens) nothing happens. Also, I received no Update prompt, although it's set to weekly. In short, Check for Updates isn't working.

I guess I have to download the entire program again and not simply update? 😲 If so, from where?

    Thanks.

    Dinarius,

This is the download location: http://www.phaseone.com/getco8

Yes, there is always a full download. This ensures integrity of the package. I suggest to uninstall a previous version before installing a later one.

    Hi Paul,

    Thanks.

    Just downloaded 8.2.2

RGB readouts have returned. (after using Spot Removal)

But, unless I'm doing something wrong basic Adjustment Layer is still not working.

    1. Mask cannot be made visible - either during drawing or all the time - though orange dot appears at the end.
    2. Still no adjustment possible to what you have painted in.

    ?

    D.

Ps. Still haven't had time to check the Colour Tool colour picker freezing or not.

    Update:

    Hi Paul,

Didn't notice your suggestion about uninstalling old version, first time round.

So, uninstalled and cleaned the registry.

Then reinstalled - wasn't asked to reboot this time.

Still the same problem Adjustment Layer

    1. Orange dot appears
    2. No mask visible.
    3. No adjustments possible.

    Hi Dinarius,

Starting with the obvious: can you confirm that you have checked the mask display status, from the cursor tools? Make sure it is not set to 'Never display mask'.

I can not copy the behaviour you described. Layers works fine here. I suggest:
    - close program, delete preferences
    - open program, make new session or catalog
    - import image without adjustments
    - try layers again.

If all fails, please contact Phase One support. This behaviour is very untypical for CO8.

    Paul,

Yes, I can confirm that there is no visible mask whether I choose "Always..." or "Only...."

I only use a single Default Session to address files directly in the location that I place them when I load them from my memory cards. I am a low volume shooter and have no need for anything else.

I will try setting up a new Session to see if it makes a difference. How do I delete Preferences?

    Thanks.

This is a potential cause of many undefined errors. I do the same (one session for many occasions) but renew the session db file regularly. Just delete the session file and create a session with the same name as the old one in the same location. CO8 will only create a new db file. Magic!

    From KB article 1134, point 7 (http://www.phaseone.com/en/search/artic ... nguageID=1)
    7. Delete the Preference Files located here:
    C:\Users\USER NAME\AppData\Local\Phase_One\CaptureOne.exe_Url....\8.x.x\user.config

I suggest to delete everything in the ..\Phase_One\.. folder as each version stores their user.config

    Paul,

    You da man! 😄

Creating a new session solved the problem. Basic Adjustment layer working now.

Question: By default, when creating a new Session, C1 asks me to store it in C:/Users/My Name/Pictures. I can see the old Session there. Can I safely delete it?

    Thanks for your help.

    D.

Ps. Maybe the Color Tool/Color Picker freezing problem will be solved now too. 😂

You can safely delete the old session. Just check whether there are no images in the (default) folders inside the session. But apart from that, goodbye old session.

Great you are up to speed now. We'll see how your other issues evolve.

    Hi Paul,

Yes, in the old session folder there was a bunch of TIFF files, dating from early April, in a folder called Output.

I have no idea how they got there. 😕

Not important as they exist elsewhere.

Might create a new Session every month for good house-keeping.

    Thanks again.
