Ratings and Labels
Hi,
maybe a beginners question...
Is it possible to force capture one to save ratings/color labels in the database/catalog?
I have imported 2.500 images from a folder structure (not a lightroom catalog import this time).
If i now open the catalog in C1 and click on 'All images' in the left nav bar C1 seems to load the rating and color labels (filter tab) directly from the files.
Metadata sync is set to No.

The behaviour I would expect to see is that ratings/tags are only read during import. There are stored in the catalog database and synchronisation only happens when you enable that in the preferences, which is not the case according to your post. 0 -
Hi Paul,
yes, it will happen each time I open a catalog.
My first gess was, that it is caused because the images are not in the catalog - they are located on a nas and during import I have selected that they are not copied to the catalog folder.
I have made some tests.
The counting will happen only once.If I select 'all images' counting starts. Then I select for example '5 star ratings' and switch back to 'all images' no counting is noticeable.
If I close the catalog and open it again, counting will start again.
1. Import the images into a session - session folder is on a local hard drive.
This speeds things up but the ratings/color labels are still counted again
2. Created a new catalog and imported the session above. Same here - each time I open the catalog ratings/color labels are counted.
3. Created a new catalog, this time I copied the files to the catalog.
But the behaviour persists.
4.
Created a new catalog - this time I deleted all xmp files before import.
In C1 I assigned some rating and color labels, closed the catalog and re opened. Same thing.
It starts counting again.
Seems to me that this is a normal thing?
Not a real problem - but when the referenced images are on a nas it takes some time counting is finished.0 -
What version of CO8 are you using? Where do you see the 'counting'? 0 -
Hi,
i am using build 8.1.1.20.
I refer with counting to the filters tab.
There i noticed that ratings, color labels and keywords are counted again.0 -

OK, clear, thank you. The counting in the Filters tool, do you think that CO8 reads the files again? I am not sure. You could move files to a different location (test catalog) or - if they are on an external disk - disconnect the storage and open catalog again.0 -
Hi Paul,
you are right - it does not read the ratings from the files. Even if I disconnect the external disk, Co1 counts in the filter tool.
What makes me wonder is the disk activity when the disk is connected.
When I scroll down the thumbnail preview list at the bottom of the main window I notice that it takes a while until the thumbs are generated.
With the external disk connected I notice a lot of harddisk activity.
With the disk unplugged it also takes a moment until I see all thumbs.
Seems that CO1 looks for each image if it is online - right?0 -

Yes, it checks it online/offline state.0
