Confusion with file operations after upgrade from C1 v5
Hello,
I have just upgraded to C1 v7 from v5 and I am really confused how to use it with my workflow. It would be pity if I need to change workflow just because of upgrade to a newer version of C1. I was expecting more features, not limitations. Can you please advice how to achieve something similar with C1 v7?
My worflow with C1 v5 was following:
1) Connect camera and automatically download images by Windows to a given folder, e.g. D:\Pictures\2013\<date>. I am not able to import images directly in C1, because my camera (Canon 30D) is not mapped to a drive. I repeat this step several times before I get time to edit photos (step 2-4).
2) Browse file location above (D:\Pictures\2013\<date>) and quickly delete files with bad photos (Ctrl+Del).
3) In C1 create folder D:\Pictures\2013\<date>\jpg and set it as an output folder.
4) Go through photos one by one, apply adjustments. Decide at this moment whether to generate a JPG (Ctrl+D).
I have understood that in C1 v7 I need to import each folder with images to library, i.e., repeat Import for each folder with images created by Windows. I need even each time to select the right album before opening Import dialog.
Then I want to browse images, so I go to Folders, locate the folder however when I delete the file it is only removed from library and stays on the disk (renaming file works fine).
And finally I want to go through images and export image to given location one by one without opening any dialog.
Thank you for your help.

There will be more knowledgeable people here, but here is a quick advice.
You don't have to import anything and you don't have to work with catalogs if you are not used to.
Open a New Session (File/New Session), name it whatever, and under Library bar you'll see System Folders. There are your folders that you just filled with pictures from the camera. From that point you can continue to work the way you are used to.0 -
You can use exactly the same flow in CO7, just use Sessions. 0 -
Hi,
thanks for your answers. Forgot to mention, that I have C1 Express in which it seems I can not work with session (there is no File / New Session). Can I browse/delete images on the filesystem in C1 Express?
Thanks.

Libor,
C1 Express is strongly limited version. You cannot browse/delete images on the filesystem ☹️
You can only work with Catalog, which is frustrating new workflow, different from previous Express/Lite versions...0 -
As I don't have the Express version, I'm not sure if this will apply the same, but my workflow is very similar to yours and it took a little while to adjust to C1 v7.
I create a folder for each week in which I take RAW photos so a typical folder structure will be:
L:\Photo Libraries\Originals\RAW\RAW Library II\2013-12\49
I found it extremely irritating to have to setup an import job for each week until I realised that I could either set one up for the month or for the whole library. You can then set the import job to include subfolders.
When C1 performs the import it will only import the new images having recognised all the existing images as present in the catalog. For performance reasons I create one import job per month which I found to be a reasonable compromise between the extended time to go through the whole of my raw library and the hassle of creating new import jobs.
Seems to me that is less effort than creating a new session each time I want to see and process files in C1.
