Sorting order switches to manual
Frequently, the sorting order (which I prefer to be set to "Date") of the photos in the Browser automatically switches to "Manual". Each time, I have to set it back to "Date" to navigate to the next photo, which is quite annoying.
What does "Manual" sorting mean anyway? I am not sure what exactly causes this automatic switching of the sorting order.
One action which definitely triggers this, is when I select the "Contrast" preset in the Curve dialog.
Is this a bug, or am I doing something wrong?

Kinda strange that sorting order, so constantly switches for you. I never got the same issues, manual mode means that you may re order photos in way you want to. 0 -

Ah - that explains something I have noticed.
Going into the preset list and moving the cursor over any of the options in the third level down - i.e. Curve or any of the others - changes the name of the Browser sort order to display manual. No need to apply the preset to see the name change.
Going back up the Preset folder hierarchy changes the displayed name back again.
Apply the preset also means the displayed name changes back to whatever it was before.
So as far as I can tell, on my system, there is a strange display anomaly but no changes are actually applied.
It sounds as if you see a different outcome. Is that correct?

Hmmm... that's weird! Now that I am trying to reproduce this (again), I get the same _temporary_ change of the sorting order as you do: as you say, the displayed change of the sorting order is not actually applied when I apply e.g. the contrast curve.
So there must be some additional circumstance to make this (undesired) sorting order switch stick...
But I am quite certain that even this temporary change of the sorting order should not happen!0 -
I would agree that it should not appear to happen.
However as far as I can tell it does not happen, even if the suggested sort method has changed, unless one manually re-positions an image using drag and drop.
I often see a situation whereby the browser loses focus on the image being edited, which is a little annoying. However a quick left or right arrow and back returns focus to the image in current edit so it is an inconvenience but not a disaster.
The consequences, for a sequential edit session, can be a little frustrating but are not (usually) disastrous or insurmountable.
IMO.

Finally I discovered what triggers a permanent switch of the sorting order:
1. select a photo from a Smart Album instead of a normal album
2. Select the a preset (e.g. "Contrast") in the Curve dialog
I.m.h.o. this behaviour is erroneous.0 -

Did you create a Support case to notify the C1 support team?

Good idea. I just did. 0 -
I know that the prior posts to this problem are very old but I also notice that the sort order switches to Manual from Date. This has only happened since I upgraded to firmware 2.40 today. In preferences I have set the default sort to be name. However when I start Capture One it is already set to Date. This seems odd behaviour
