Importing File Structure

Have you tried simply pointing C1 at your on-disk file structure (i.e. "Import From" set to your annual folder and "include subfolders") and having it import with Destination set to "Current Location"? Try this for each of your annual folders and see if it gives you what you're looking for.

I have. When I select Import, and choose my main pictures folder where all my sub date folders are located, then ensure the include subfolders box is checked. For destination, I keep Current Destination, and no other enhancements are made. After the long import (I have also tried doing smaller versions for time sake) I end up with the same result. None of my folders are grouped. They are all placed into the main catalog folder if you will as if I placed all of my folders separately in the pictures folder.

What about if you go to "Folders" in the Library tool, then select your HDD, right-click, and click on "Show folder hierarchy" ?

Welcome to CO. That's why you will hate CO. I also switched from LR. Love the image IQ but workflow and cataloging is a nightmare!

The best you can do is import your LR catalog and you have the structure but also your collections. I have several hundred thousand images in one single catalog in LR on an external raid. CO wasn't even able to import that catalog... I made several catalogs for each year and imported them into CO but performance is miles away from LR.

So I still do the majority of work (at least if time matters) in LR. For the best work I do the images separately in CO. I still have hope that some day the catalog structure of CO will become logical....
