Rename RAW files?
I'm really trying to learn to like V. 4 - it just feels so clunky, many more clicks to do what I need to do. So, I've done my editing with stars instead of tags - either they get processed or not, I really don't need to rate them at this point but maybe I just don't see the value in that yet. Is there a shortcut way to select all the starred files (like alt T used to select all the tagged files in 3.7, that's so much faster than click the first and search for the last star and shift-click it.) Now, here is where I would like to rename my raw files so they will match up with the processed versions. So far I can only find renaming happening to the files as they are processed and the raws keep their camera name. What if I want to match them up quickly later on without having to go to the meta data. Also, I would like to start my renaming with job name_2 or any other number instead of 1, like I could do in 3.7 ... Guess not?!
I'm trying to like it - really! But at this point if PO would give me the profile for the 1Ds III in 3.7.7 I would go back in a heart beat. Is anyone from PO listening? Could I just get that profile in 3.7.7 and reside there until you get ver. 4 worked out - Pleeeaaaaase!

This is exactly my problem also, i got Canon 1DS MKIII and would love to work on this files in the 3.7. I have a lot off struggle with the 4, because i want to have the same work flow that i had earlier.

I have the same issue with renaming - you can also rename on import but that does not work if you are trying to merge images from multiple cameras.
I rename mine based on time shot so that they stay in chronological order. So I want to rename in my job/shoot folder.
I am hoping they will provide that in V4Pro0 -
I'm with you, still using 3.7.7. for that job
The same problem, shooting with multiple cameras and wanting to end up with one batch0 -
My point, in case onyone from PO is looking, is that I want to rename after editing. Also, I don't want to necessarily start with number one. I've watched all the videos and read all the words but I just don't think this is possible any more. Maybr they can put it into the Pro version. 0 -
A better way to do things would be to use a specialist app such as Imageingester to import your RAW files, there is a variety of naming options plus support for multi camera shoots. Simply name your raw files meaningfully at ingestion and set C1 to use the capture name for output, problem solved. Remember sound DAM adds value to your photography, and consistant file naming is the bedrock of any DAM system and I'm sorry but IMHO it is simply bad practice to rename RAW files after editing, can cause all sorts of problems such as lost files etc.
Peter Krogh's excellent website and book offers loads of info on DAM, though his workflow is based on ACR with a bit of imagination it can be adapted to C1 V4

My approach. If I just want to tag for selecting to develop, I give the file a 1-star rating (keyboard shortcut: just press the '1' key). Next, in Edit menu, Select by Rating, 1 star. All images with a 1-star rating are selected now. Give the Process command while holding the Shift-key to apply the command to all selected.
Hope this helps.
I have now help for your renaming blues, because I do not understand exactly what your problem is (my lack of understanding I assume). For rename during import, I do use a dedicated program like Photo Mechanic or Downloader Pro. Other programs are fine too if it meets your needs.0 -
Batch Rename is a PRO feature and will be included in PRO 4
As mentioned, you can rename upon Import or you can rename at the Output.
Format has options for Job Name and Counter, etc.
Organize rated images by: See Page 31 of the User Guide

Thank you Keith. I'm hoping the batch renaming will keep the same features that I like from 3.7 - mostly starting with any number not just 1. I will be a happy camper when Pro comes out. Thanks again. 0 -
I think the 4 pro will have the same possibility's that we had in 3.7
For PRO photographers, there is important to rename all files with a key name.
Then make a small jpg with the same name of all the RAW files. Then you index all the jpg with key words so you can search for them in a program designed for this. And you use the key name to find your RAW files in the arcive.
