If it is not a hardware issue, which I don't expect it to be, you could be more specific about your workflow, in particular about the color space you use throughout your workflow and when the banding does surface.

You could also post a link to a downloadable raw file for other users to look into it with one of your files. You will get more response.

Has anyone noticed any banding in skies shot with the 5D Mark III? I seem to have this issue usually in sunset or skies that have more gradations. I sent my camera in to Canon and they didn't find anything wrong with it. Just curious if anyone else has experienced this.

    Michael,

I have no idea if this is relevant but ...

I saw something similar shooting Canon (Cannot recall if it was a 400D or a 1D3 at the time) in a strobe session. Very odd.

Long story but in the end it turned out to be something to do with scaling the images to the screen - or something like that - the exact detail escape me as I type this. There was a mismatch between the saved file resolution and the application's rescaling to the native screen resolution (Not C1 at the time ...) and that resulted in some apparent banding on some shots. Changing the image size to display eliminated the apparent problem. Print was always OK.

You may have a different problem of course but I would take a little time to check out the potential for it being simply down to screen resolution/file resolution and scaling issues somewhere along the line.

    HTH.

I dont have this problem with 5D mk 3 but I always retouch in 16 bit mode to avoid banding
