How to relocate the images within catalog?

Yes, you can move images stored in a catalogue to an external drive. I have my main photo archive set up this way. In the Library tab you can add existing folders to the catalogue and then simply drag images to those external folders in the Library tab.

You can also set the import location to your external drive and use tokens to import images into your folder structure.

Yes. Add your proposed external folder(s) to the catalog, then just drag and drop images there from the In Catalog section of the Library tool. (But do the moving in Capture One, not in Finder.)

OK, so I think I was just making this harder than it needs to be. To summarize...

Under Library -> Folders create new directory on the new storage.
Under Catalog -> Catalog Collections -> All Images, select the images to be moved, then drag them over to the new directory under Library -> Folders.

    Done!

You've pretty much got it, with one minor correction. Capture One doesn't create the folder (although you can use the New Folder button), it's just adding an existing folder. The most tedious part about moving images to an external location is having to create the initial folder structure if you're doing anything complex.

Oh, and one more bit of catalogue trivia: you can make adjustments to images in the catalogue while your external drive is disconnected.

OK just found this through a web search. I have a catalog that contains a dozen or more subfolders. I have culled alot of the images and would now like to put all images within the main folder. When I dragged images from subfolders to the main folder in the library tab they seem to be unmoved when I check them on my Windows file explorer.
