New Capture One 4 user - a few questions.
Hi All
I've recently switched to C1 4 from ACR as I was experiencing problems with the way ACR was handling D300 NEFs shot in certain lighting conditions - namely saturated stage lighting. I was having all sorts of problems with ACR clipping easily and oversaturating coloured light as well as issues with banding and generally poor colour rendition. So I compared ACR with Nikon Capture NX and P1 Capture One 4 and after testing a wide range of files C1 4 was clearly the best processor in terms of image quality. I love the quality of the files I'm getting from this compared to ACR 😄
I have a few newbie questions though.
1. Is there any way of resetting the counter to 1 without closing the app? For instance I like to name my files by job name and counter, but if I'm working on one folder of images then switch to a different folder of images the counter doesn't reset but just continues from where it left off i.e. 20 or whatever. The only time it resets is when the program is closed down.
2. Everytime I exit a folder then go back to it the previews are reloaded from scratch and this is time consuming. Is this right? Surely once a cache has been created they should load in seconds.
3. Related to the above. Once I exit a folder and reopen it at a later stage any variations I have created are lost i.e. they just don't appear in the browser.
Thanks
Phil

Some answers
1. There is not if you are referring to the importer, it is on the feature request list.
2. No it does not recreate previews, however if you have zoomed (focused above 67%) then it will redraw. This is just information that can not stay in memory when working with large amount of files your computer would fall over in memory allocation.
3. The variants collapse, they don't disappear. On the thumbnail of an image you have made a variants of you will see a small symbol, if you click this it will expand to show all variants instead of just the primary variant.0 -
Thanks for the reply Ulf that has helped. What would be really useful in future versions would be if the counter could work more intelligently. For example when you start processing images from a new folder it automatically starts at 001, if you then exit that folder and go to a different folder the counter will either reset to 001, if no images have been previously processed, or will continue where it left off if you have already processed a number of images from that folder.
Thanks

I agree,
OR the different scenario where you have let say 755 images and you want to add to it later so you can set it to start at 756.
Basically being able to dynamic set counter start point.0
