Still No Floating Browser on Windows version?
I posted about this a few years and versions ago. At the time it was noted that this could be done on the Mac but NOT the windows version. viewtopic.php?f=47&t=16275
Currently in CO9 I still do not have the ability to have the browser window separate or floating and I am frustrated. I have two monitors. I need one monitor to have a window with a browser view of all my photos, separate from the second monitor that has the current photo I am editing with the editing tools (Lightroom has had this for years now and I sorely miss this option).
Currently, the only way to have the browser window open is as part of the editing screen, taking up valuable space of the photo I am currently editing. The only way I see to do this is to hide the browser, edit, unhide the browser and select a new photo and then hide the browser again. A much more intuitive way is to select the photo I want to edit from a separate screen, and it opens in my current edit display. Again, from what I read before, this feature I need IS available on the Mac version of CO but is still not on Windows. Am I missing something?
It would look similar to this https://basshead.files.wordpress.com/20 ... 030821.jpg
And I see I am not the only one to bring this up viewtopic.php?f=62&t=21962

Maybe you can resize the main window such that is covers your right monitor plus the small part of your left monitor to hold your tools. then create a separate viewer window (menu "window") and place it left side left monitor?
Alternatively, create floating tools and a separate viewer window. You can even dock several tools togehter, what's missing though is floating tool tab container to hold all tool tabs.0 -
Creating floating tools puts the photo underneath the tools.
I am not asking for a bastardized workaround here. I am asking the developers for a feature that makes lots of sense, that betters the GUI, that is available on it's competitor, and what I have read may be available already for several years on the Mac version of this software.0 -
If I understand what you want to do and having looked at your screen grab I'm pretty sure this is exactly how I work.
I have 3 screens active at any time. Ignoring the left screen I open C1 on the right screen then go top of screen select Window/Workspace/Dual monitor-large viewer. The viewer is now sitting over your thumbnails. Drag this window to your second screen and expand to full screen. Your tools are still on the right screen but if you need them next to the large image just drag them across.0 -

Well, I am able to resize the standalone viewer window (F10) such that the floating tools can be placed beside the viewer window, can't you do the same?[quote="NN300458UL" wrote:

Well, you are posting in a user to user forum hence what do you expect to get? Of course "bastardized workarounds" like mine or graham's...
Asking the developers for a feature is done via support cases, as you already did.0 -
Beo, again I am not looking for a workaround. My post is directed toward the developers of this software. I made it very clear in my original post a few years ago and now in my repost. 0 -

As this is a User to User forum by primary intent you may not be reaching your intended audience. Frustating but.
Have you made a new request recently? There was an update of the support systems a few weeks back and as I recall the old cases were not carried forward to be active in the new system. That does not mean that they are now ignored but it might be an opportunity to re-raise your suggestion and request.
It might also help the case if a number of people are keen to see the same changes - assuming that the tools used to develop the current Windows version of the C1 GUI offer the developers the facility to provide the functionality. One wonders if they might not since there was some effort made a little while back to bring the features of the Mac and Windows code closer together where technology and "Standards" allowed.

Finally, the no. of users requesting a certain feature (via support cases) could have an influence on the prioritization queue, so your chances should be higher if you were nicely asking other users to join you and submit a request too if a user would like to have this feature. Better than just expressing your dissatisfaction and non-appreciating other users workarounds, which are meant to help you.0 -

But like BeO said, they won't look into the issue unless you *file a support case* (https://www.phaseone.com/en/SupportMain ... pport.aspx). As I understand it, that's the only way they can properly keep track of this kind of reports/requests.0 -
And still, here we are 10 years later, and still no floating browser window for Windows. These are the developers that want you to rent their software, and promise updates to it.
Ever hear of Stockholm syndrome? Because some of you have it.
