Apply metadata to multiple images

There is a toggle between Edit Primary (which is what you are doing) and Edit All Selected Variants.

Look under the Edit menu where you will see the option. and shortcut.

Also the icon that looks like 3 stacked documents will toggle the processing on and off.

It would be great if the Capture One crew did something to make the documentation more obvious about this as it's a question that comes up just about every day.

Agree, apart from that I made a modest effort to fill the gap: 😉

    Sorry Paul, I keep forgetting.

Maybe the most logical help the team could offer would be to stick a link to that article in a sticky post at the top of the forum somewhere?

A huge clear title, flashing perhaps, might be immensely helpful to newcomers and save them a great deal of time!

Would have helped me learn more quickly in the first 6 months of use a few years ago ...

    😉

Thanks for your help unfortunately I can't make this work. I have all the images in the session selected. One shows as primary but I have toggled the three sheets of paper icon so that I have 'edit all variants' ticked in the edit menu but still the same thing happens. Only the primary received the metadata when I try to add it. Does anyone have any more suggestions. This should be so simple! Thank you.

Ah! Are you expecting the fields to be updated in all variants as you fill them?

That will work for things like star ratings and colour tags but not meta data.

Keep the variants selected. Make the entries in one of them.

Then, when happy with what you have, use "Copy to Clipboard" and apply to the other selected variants.

Copy to Clipboard can be used in different modes including an immediate "Apply" or via an intermediate secondary selection option. Guidance appears when you "hover" the cursor over the action icons.

You can also make the metadata fields of your choice available in the Filters section of the Library and any values visible there can also be used to assign data to fields in images. Simply drag the browser thumbnail(s) over the value you want to apply for the chosen field and the metadata for that field will be populated.

    HTH.

Hi Grant, well, I am trying to 'stamp' all variants selected with a metadata preset I created. I'll give what you suggest a try. Thanks again for your assistance. Matthew

What you do mean by 'stamp'? Do you apply the preset from the Metadata tool, while you have all images selected?

Hi Grant, yes, apply to multiple selected files from a metadata preset. Thanks, Matthew

There only seems to be an option to paste all adjustments made into multiple selected images. There must be a simple way to apply a metadata preset to multiple selected images?

If you have saved some metadata as a User Preset you should be able to apply the Preset to one or more images just like any other Preset. You may want to enable Preset Stacking as well.

I've added this to this topic because it seemed most relevant, but my problem may be a bug.
I have an issue whereby I apply a preset to a range of images by copying and applying. I check that the metadata has changed for all by scrolling through each one. Then, if I go back and change something using another tab, for example saturation or exposure on one image and then go back into metadata, the preset info has been stripped back off the file.
It is very irritating as I often then have to go back and redo a lot of work and re-output the files.
    Am I missing something simple?
    Thanks

In reply to Grants last post I found that by turning Preset Stacking off and then on again allowed me to apply metadata presets to multiple images. Perhaps a bug as preset stacking was on when I started. Thanks for your assistance.
