My entirely non-scientific suggestion is to disable the Canon camera provider from Preferences, Capture tab.
You could also experiment with cables, powered cables (repeater build-in) and powered hub.

Regarding your other issue, a Mac Mini is not a good combination with CO 7. It is simply not powerful enough.

I would suggest that you try to observe if the disconnect is associated with the camera or computer going to sleep.
I would also suggest you take Paul's advice and have a look into USB power as the use of anything over a 3 meter USB cable is beyond spec and has a huge potential to lose connection.

I am running, among other things, a mid 2011 mini 2.3ghz with 8gb ram, SATA3 SSD, 10.8.2 and run C1Pro 7 without any issues.

Could you provide a little more info on the spec of your mini? I would be happy to help you out.

    Midwest,

I like your set-up and glad to hear you are not having any problems. Do you recommend upgrading to 10.8.2 or sticking with 10.7.4 ?

Here is the information about the Mac Mini

Please let me know if this is powerful enough to run the program.

    Mac OS X 10.6.8

    Model Name: Mac mini
    Model Identifier: Macmini2,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 1.83 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 2 MB
    Memory: 4 GB
    Bus Speed: 667 MHz

I observed that neither the camera or the computer went to sleep during use of 7.0.2 when the camera detaches.
Regarding the details relating to my usb connection. I have a Nikon usb-2 connector and an extension to that goes to my computer. I will get the details on the exact name for the cables.

I'm getting the same thing with my D800e.

    The connection to camera seems a lot less stable on 7.0.2 than 6.4.3. I've tried different cables and different macs (mid 2012 mbp 4GB / SSD / 10.8.2) and USB ports but have not found the root cause yet. I'll keep at it and update this thread and will also try an optical USB 3 cable when they are released (end Q1 2013);

But it's a real hit to productivity. Also embarrassing.

    Dale,

I am blessed, or maybe it's cursed, to be using different versions of C1Pro (6.4.4,7.0.2) on different OSX version (10.6.8, 10.7.4, 10.8.2) on a regular basis between home and work.

The first step I would take if you have not done so already would be to update C1Pro to 7.0.2 but stay on Lion 10.7.4 for now. If you are already there and things seem to have gone well for you I would say that you could then step up to 10.8.2.

In the interest of full disclosure, my reasoning for being the perpetual first to update at home is so that I can be ready to answer the inevitable questions that arrise at work every time that the new OS or software version comes out.

Do you have any specific concerns about what you might gain or lose by going from 10.7.4 to 10.8.2?

In an overall sense, I feel that 10.8.2 is a pretty solid OS and I don't feel bad telling people who are inclined to keep up with the times to update once a version of Mac OS has been around longe enough to undergo the first few post-release revisions. I know a lot of people who seem to be bent on making their death rattle on 10.6.8 and tell me, "if it ain't broke...", but I would much rather be able to utilize more 64 bit processes and deal with a few hiccups than to handcuff myself in what is rapidly becoming an antiquated OS version.

You, on paper, are basically pegged to the bare minimum as far as the recommended specs go for a Mac using C1Pro7. The wrinkle for your particular machine is that it will only actually use slightly above 3 gigs of the 4 you have in it thereby making your machine under minimum spec for version 7. I gleaned the following from the interwebs. The same sentiment can be found on a number of other sites.

"Apple officially supports 2 GB of RAM, but third-parties have been "unofficially" able to upgrade it to 4 GB of RAM using dual 2 GB memory modules. Please note that some memory in excess of 3 GB cannot be used with 4 GB of RAM installed, so some may prefer to quote an actual maximum of 3 GB of RAM."

That particular mini isn't blessed with the same sort of unpublished/unsupported huge RAM gains that can be made on the later ones... Apple says that 8 is max on mine but I can put in 16 (and might at some point) and still have appreciable gains in performance.

I am also guessing that you are using a spinning drive... correct me if I am wrong. That isn't helping. And because the board in your mini won't support the newest and fastest SSDs I would consider it a waste to try to upgrade your current machine just to try to eek a little more life out of it.

If you don't want to sink a huge amount of cash into a new machine, consider buying a new or refurbed mini of the current or just past generation, a second drive kit, a SATA3 SSD, 8 or 16 gigs of ram... you are looking at being back in the game for between $825 and $945 plus any tax and shipping if you have the skills to install the upgrades on your own.

Thanks for info on the Mac Mini. I will take your advice and upgrade.

Will also upgrade my OS X on my Mac Pro.
