import problems
I am new to Capture One. When i try to import some photos from my desktop, some show up as thumbnails in import window while others show up as a blank black square with only the photos name. When i highlight one of the black squares and import it the actual photo does show up in my work space. Why do some photos have a thumbnail and other appear as a black square on the import page. Am I missing a setting somewhere?

Hmm, hard to say without info about the kind of image file you are not successful with. And the version of CO8 your are using (beside version number like 8.2, also the mode like Pro, Express (sony) and so on). 0 -
I am on a macbook pro with latest mac software. I am using Capture One Pro version 8.2.1.5. When I select "import images" from under the file menu. Capture One goes to my desktop where I have a variety of Photos and videos. CO seems to pickup Tiff files and videos, but does not provide a thumbnail for my .jpg's or .Jpeg's. On the import page all my jpg's show up as black squares with the name of the photo underneath. When I actually import the jpg's they show up as thumbnails in the session page not blank black boxes. It is just difficult to know what i am importing especially if the photo name is just numbers as many are. i did not know if there was a setting i had missed so that import builds a thumbnail before uploading a file. 0 -
I am observing the same issue. Some JPEGs are shown with a thumb, some without in the import window.
For testing, I removed all information, including the thumbnail, from a JPEG with exiftool. After that, the thumbnail was gone in the import dialog, too. Just the text is shown.
Conclusion: CO uses the embedded thumbnail image to preview JPEGs in the import window. No thumbnail, no preview.

....That's helpful to know. I wondered how CO8 was displaying RAW file images before actually importing and converting on import. I don't shoot JPEGs and didn't realise one was embedded in a RAW file - I guess that's how the camera body displays a screen review too.0 -

Yes.
Which means you see the image as adjusted by the camera's internal parameters and it may (almost certainly) be different to a RAW converters basic interpretation of the image.
