Problems all week with 8.3.1 - anyone else?
Hello all, I'm hoping someone can help me with the problem I've been having all week with C1 Pro. I've just sent the latest crash report to the boys in the lab, and out of exasperation I've copied the text here in the hope that the forum experts may be able to help:
The current version of C1 Pro has become virtually unusable for me this week since my upgrade to 8.3 then to 8.3.1. Each night during an average 4 hour session editing RAW files, C1 is crashing on at least 4 occasions each night, and I have to force quit to close the application (I’m on a 27†retina iMac running Yosemite 10.10.4)
There’s no pattern to the crashes, I’m working on Raw file then the updating wheel in the top taksbar does its flashing thing for several minutes before I then have to force quit (ALT,CMD, ESC). All other images are slightly blurred as well so can’t view anything else in the catalogue properly. I’ve restarted my mac several times in the hope that this would help, but to no avail. I’m now seriously thinking about downgrading to 8.2 which worked far better for me. I don't know if this is a known issue and if the lab guys are currently working on a fix, but it would be good to know if it's just me having issues.
I’ll be grateful if anyone can suggest anything else I should try before having to downgrade - I’m now approaching my iMac with dread as I now expect C1 to crash when I start the programme - it shouldn’t be like this! AIso, if I have to downgrade back to 8.2, will I lose all my edits that I've recently made?
Thanks in advance for any advice offered.
Best wishes,
David

When you say you have sent the crash report do you mean you have created a Support Case with Phase?
If not I would suggest it would be wise to do so sooner rather than later despite it being a weekend.
Meanwhile something that is always worth a try after updates of any sort when this happens - try disabling OpenCL in the preferences. It may not be related but it's always worth having checked whether it makes a difference. Changes to OS, GPU drivers and other things can all offer the potential for causing glitches and that at least is an easy test to try.
Problems in that area would sort of fit with your description of incompletely rendered images.
You might also try just opening the catalog and going off to do something else - depending on the size of the catalog. If it is undertaking some form of internal edit update and regeneration it may just need some time to complete.
An alternative would be to create a new test catalogue and work with that for some hours to see if you get the same problems.
But first .... create that Support Case.
HTH.

Hello Grant,
Many thanks for your quick reply. I've yet to open a support case with C1, but I'll do that tomorrow - all I've done so far is complete the crash log. Yes, Open CL is off, it always has been for me but the problems I'm experiencing were similar to the issues I used to have for the short time that I has Open CL switched on (version 7 I think).
I'll give your other suggestions a go (opening the catalog then going for a cup of tea, and also opening a new test catalogue), but I'll definitely raise a support ticket for this tomorrow. I'm sure it's a local issue, hopefully the support guys can help further.
Thanks for your reply, have a great weekend!

The constant niggly little bugs and crashes are something I've experienced on a regular basis with both C1P7 and 8. The problem is they're never consistently repeatable which makes it very difficult to raise a support case. I can guarantee that every day I use C1P8 it will either crash or I encounter some strange behaviour which requires closing down and reopening C1. Earlier today C1P8 started to use 98% of my system resources and the only thing I could do was to force quit with Activity Monitor.
A couple of months ago I performed a completely clean install of Yosemite. I was hoping that one of the side benefits of this would be a reduction in these niggles, but to no avail.0 -
Have you already verified and repaired your catalog database? That fixed some crash issues for me in the past. 0 -
Whatever the results, please give us users feedback. Especially if you find something that helped.
Too many times, folks will post and not follow up, and the same issues get asked about over and over again.
Not yours, of course. Its too new. 😄
BTW, my C1 is working better since the update. It may be just me, but it seems better anyway.
I still have my Keywords tool disabled. I'm still not brave enough to put that back into use. That could cause a ton of issues. 😂0 -
With 8.3.1, I'm not able to do batch export... I select them all and click "process" and only the highlighted selected photo exports. 0 -
No problems here with Capture One 8.3.1 running on 10.9.5 on Mac Pro 2013 / 6 core / D500
Several bugs seems to be fixed like token's not displaying correctly. Pleased with the release! For anyone who's struggling, use PhaseOne guide for completely unistalling C1. Also only having C1 8 seems to make things more stable instead of running multiple versions.0 -
Thanks for the reply folks, I'm just about to raise a support ticket just now with the guys in the lab. Before I do so, can someone let me know how I verify/repair a catalog? had a look at the documentation and can't find anything, but will look again just to make sure. This may help before I bother the good folks at C1!
Thanks again,

Thank you for the super quick response, Jimmy. Database verified ok but it will be tomorrow before I get the chance to see if it's made a difference.
Thanks again.
