Strange noise when starting C1 LE

My PC is doing the same thing with 3.7.4. The sound is coming from the hard drive and it does not sound very healthy at all. I have re-installed 3.7.3 and the startup is dead quiet. I have never experienced this with any other programme or any previous C1 Pro release. My understanding is that certain software does not recognize the system RAM at startup and then scramble to create a scratch space on the disk to compensate. This rapid movement of the head is what causes the buzz or scracth sound on the hard drive.I am not sure whether 3.7.4 got the same problem. Can Phase One please clarify.

I'm running 3.7.4 and it definitely creates a hard-drive noise problem.
    Your analysis is very convincing.

I'm not interested in blowing out a drive, so I guess I'll have to eat the $99
and use another converter. What a waste.

Thank you, willem, for you response. Per your experience with reinstalling
an older version, I went ahead and reinstalled 3.7.1. Now, when I start
the program, it is dead quiet. Looks like 3.7.4 has a problem.

The sound on my PC comes from the floppy drive, definately not the hard disk. But, If you don't have a floppy drive installed...

You are correct, alfin - the noise *is* coming from the floppy drive. If I put
in a diskette, I can hear the drive being accessed, but there is no longer
any buzzing sound. Thank you for your response.

I have no clue as to why C1 has to link to the floppy upon startup.

    Hi Friends,

I'm working on a support case with Mr. Hoffman regarding the busy floppy drive. For the rest of you with this issue can you please reply back with system specs such as make, model, RAM,. Does everybody have their floppy mapped as the A: drive?

No need for everyone to create a support case. The procedure will be to gather information, find what appears to be in common, note interesting differences, and send it along to our test department. We will use Mr. Hoffman's case as the vehicle to make the the report.

    Best regards,
