Styles Won't Apply

From what I read in your post is that you want to copy/apply an adjustment and in this case some metadata like IPTC items. Maybe you created a style with the metadata as well, but that is not what your description is about (just clearing up a potential confusion).

Regarding the copy/apply part, by default CO5 is applying all items that are changed in the source image to the destination image(s). You can verify this by reviewing the checked checkboxes on the Adjustments tool tab (and you can change this default behavior). However, there is one exception to this rule and that is: the metadata section (rating, IPTC stuff). Again you can verify this from the same tool tab.

There is a logic behind this exclusion - which not necessarily is your logic - and that is that you do not want metadata accidently being applied with exposure, crop or white balance. With CO4 I remember to have it unchecked countless times in the Adjustments tool tab list. Pfff, what a relief this has changed.

So after the copy command ("up" arrow in your case) you have to manually check the metadata items you like to apply and perhaps uncheck others. For example, this can be Location but not City. Note that you might temporarily like to change the tools default behavior by deselecting 'Autoselect Adjusted' from the Adjustments clipboard tool's context menu (small triangle at the right).

Last but not least, a style with metadata let you predefine a set you use repeatedly as the tutor video shows. After applying a style to one image, you can use the copy/apply workflow to extend it to a large number of selected images. There is currently no option to apply a style to a selection of images directly. That feature request is still pending. 😉
