A Workspace with custom Smart Albums in Session Abums?

There are some preset search for star ratings but only as the rating and everything with a higher rating. You probably know that of course.

In addition in the filters section of the Library you will have automatically created analysis for an index to all images by star rating or lack of rating. In effect that gives you the smart album experience with the additional option of being able to select more than one value when needed.

Whilst I would have thought that you should be able to create and save a session template (with a unique name) that allows you to generate the the smart album entries and re-use them I'm not entirely sure that I understand why you specifically need that approach. Is there something more you want to add, beyond the star rating selection alone, that makes the Smart Album approach especially useful over the basic filter (to filter IN) option?

I appreciate your reply, but this sentence doesn't make sense to me.

I believe you are assuming that the entire session is in one capture folder. If that were the case, I wouldn't need smart folders, I could just use the filter. But unfortunately, filters only apply to the particular folder or favorite you have selected.

A single job contains multiple subfolders in the main capture folder. one for every look or model we shoot. Smart folders are ideal for this because they access the entire session, not just one specific capture folder. So, if I want to view all the 5 star images for the entire job with a client, I have to use a smart filter.

"All Images" is, in effect, a smart album that will find all images in the session that are contained in folders flagged as "Favourites".

Does your shoot process by any chance automatically set the various folders you create to Favourite status?

That aside I have very quickly checked Smart Album (1 star rating) definitions being saved in a new session template. Then closed the session used to create the template.

I then created a new session using the new template and the 1 Star Smart Album is present.

So my initial reaction is that you may be experiencing a glitch rather than a bug. However I am running 12.1.4 on Windows 7 so there are some other potential variables in the mix.

Maybe another Mac user could chime in here?

Now you're on to something, and the solution. Templates! That worked, and saved all my custom smart filters! Why a workspace and template don't remember the same details is beyond me.

I honestly had no idea templates even existed in CO. I don't remember templates being covered at all in certification training (2 years ago), and I've been using the Capture One Pro since 2006. Jeez. I think I need to poke around the menus more often in my free time.

    Thanks for your help!

    You're welcome!

There are some parts of C1 that are not used so often to they rarely come to people's attention.

Perhaps because of that they are not "must cover" elements of training either?

And yes, I agree that being able to find time now and again to potter around the menus and look at things one may not really have looked at before in detail can be very useful. If nothing else it may jog some part of memory at some future point when a related requirement arises.

Workspaces and templates have different functions for rather different aspect of the C1 application. One of the challenges of flexibility is how to make it available whilst minimising the technicality and intrusion that may result. Sometimes I think some sort of jarring conflict may be useful - but users would hate it!
