simply add a watermark when exporting
I've discovered how to add a watermark to images by the Output Recipes method, but I really would love to just add one when exporting to a JPG format file for uploading to a web site. Can this this be achieved? Setting the output recipes just adds a whole new layer of fuss to my workflow, and I don't need or want a watermark on all my images.

Bear in mind the intention of Export is to send an image, as original or as edited, in a file format to be edited elsewhere. The Typical Pro work flow would make that place PhotoShop, probably. There is would be finished off and have a watermark added if required. It is unlikely that many people would want a watermark added before further editing.
If you take a very little time setting up a recipe - implying a completed edit and that seems to match you intent with the output here - you can add a watermark to the finalised image and send it to your favoured location time after time, just like exporting.
You can set up as many recipes as you can use and save them for future access - it's a very powerful tool and I really can't see that it is any more fussy than using exports. I would suggest it is less fussy - especially if you are feeling time pressure from exporting large numbers of images where batch processing is incredibly useful. It you are only processing a few images to jpg output I could not claim that you would see much difference one way or the other.

I've been frustrated by the watermark feature as well and just figured I was doing something wrong. My issue is I make an output recipe for web with a watermark and then I have other recipes for example a Full Res JPG that I don't want a watermark on. I have to change it each time if I want a watermark or not which is very strange to me. I also have to change the naming for each one individually as it doesn't seem to save that either for each recipe 0 -
But isn't whether a watermark is added part of the recipe? (In the watermark tab of the prices recipe tool.) Isn't it possible to create (say) a web-sized recipe without a watermark (call it, for instance "Web no WM") and an identical recipe with one (call it "Web with WM")? Then just select the with or without recipe as fits your need at any one time.
Or am I missing something?

Yes, it would seem like it's that simple, but if I have the water mark on one recipe and then click on the next recipe to process without a watermark, the watermark is still there and I have to uncheck it. 0 -

Exactly this.
Or it that seems like it might be a long list and too much to manage just create one recipe for each size (for example, may output location rule as well if they vary ....) and then add a Watermark but turn it on and off as required by adjusting the opacity. You will know if it's on - it will appear on the image before you submit it to the background output process.
When I first started to use C1 I messed around with Process for about a year (I have never used Export other than for a quick test to see what was there or if people on the forum were describing problems) and thought it was a little obscure and opaque.
One day I was prompted to spend some time really trying to understand what it could do. It seemed very similar to what I was used to from another application - but actually it offered far more. I just had not realised what was available.
An hour or so watching some video somewhere, reading the Help carefully (without assuming I understood everything automatically because it looked familiar) and seriously thinking about what I was wanting to do and how I might achieve it (keep it simple) opened my eyes to what I could do with it. More functionality has been added since.
As I said earlier - it really is very powerful and a little time spent to understand it is, in my opinion, time well spent.
I suspect you might agree Ian?

That is odd. It's not what I see.
I assume you are talking about the on-screen "watermark proof" display?
If I click between recipes with different settings for watermark use I see different settings. With or without watermark being the most obvious of course.
If you process to output do you then get both images with watermarks or one with and one without?
Also if you select an image and run the Process batch for two or more output recipes with different settings (possibly even different watermarks) what is the resulting output?

I suspect I'm doing something wrong or maybe the recipe doesn't get saved correctly? It does save the correct size, color space, etc, just not the watermark and file name. Generally if I do a web image i make it like "image_web.jpg" and that part doesn't save either to the recipe. I guess I should start over and go step by step how to create a recipe? 0 -

In the Process Recipe tool click on the 3 dots in the top right corner.
You will see some options. One allows you to Duplicate a Recipe. So if you have one that suits some needs but want another version with a Watermark (for example) you can duplicate the one you have, make the change to just add the watermark and then name it to something useful for identification.
You can also Add a Recipe. That option allows you to define and name a completely new recipe from the start. There are also some Predefined Recipes supplied by Phase but not included in the default installed list.
To rename a Recipe, click on the description to highlight it Orange. Then click again to go into edit mode. The entire line will be selected. If you start typing you will overwrite the whole description. If you click again in the line you can edit the existing description.
