Resolution setting in peocess recipe

Maybe a dumb question, but what does the resolution setting in the process recipe do? If I leave it blank, will it default to the native file resolution?

    This is print resolution, my old Canon ip 4600 likes 300 px/in. But i rarely print, and on a jpeg image i can't see any effect of this setting...so i just leave it at 300 px/in.. 😊
