Help Needed with Keywords and XMPs
Wishing to edit some of COP Imagess with other SW tools, I am trying to generate Sidecar XMP files for each Image. In doing so, the keywords disappear from many of images. Perhaps I am going about this the wrong way?
Fortunately, I am trying this first with a copy of my image library and a copy of my COP catalog on another machine, so I I haven't permanently lost the keywords (yet).
I have a library with about 17000 images, of which about 16000 have keywords assigned, there are no Sidecar XMP files.
Currently "Auto Sync Sidecar XMP" is set to "none", and "Prefer Sidecar XMP..." is checked.
To generate the XMP files, I select all the images and then set Metadata Sync to "Full". Then it takes about 2 hours to generate XMP files.
However, before generating the XMP files I have 768 images with no keywords. Afterwards, there are about 14000 images with no keywords. I have tried this on two machines with the same result, so its not a random problem.
Is there a better way to generate XMP files?

Instead of toggling the "Auto Sync Sidecar" setting on & off, I recommend leaving it set to "None", and instead use the "Sync metadata" function inside of the metadata tool tab.

The auto-sync function has just been endlessly problematic for as long as I've been using Capture One (version 5), and if you accidentally leave it enabled while shooting tethered it can cause all sorts of crazy metadata issues (such as removing star/color ratings as soon as you add them for no reason).
One other thing that can help/is important, is to make sure your disk permissions are set correctly. The recommended best practice is (for OSX) to have your sessions created in the /Users/Shared/ directory because it forces the file permissions to be correct, but it's also just a good habit to run "repair disk permissions" a couple times a month (or any time you install software that requires you to enter an admin password while running the install) to keep things in good working order.
