Foggy Preview Images

We changed the default preview size, changing slightly the deafult look in "zoom to fit" - depending on you screen size.

If you want to change this, go to settings and reduce the preview size to 1024 (as default in C1-6) - and regenerate your previews. This will force the "zoom to fit" view to be more accurate.

I’m experiencing the same behavior as the OP with 7.0.1, and setting preview size to 1024 does not remove fogginess. (I started from scratch with fresh copies of raw image files in a new folder after resetting preview size to ensure regeneration of previews.) Specific behavior is as follows. Thumbnails are foggy as soon as they appear. As soon as an image is selected the preview initially and momentarily appears clear (not foggy). Almost immediately it turns foggy. Thereafter any time the image is revisited the image is foggy as soon as it is selected. This problem renders 7.0.1 unusable since one cannot make adjustments under these conditions. Amplifying info: I also have 6.4.3 installed, and I’m running Windows 7 64-bit Pro.

OK, I've tried to submit this problem as a support case requiring technical intervention, but the upload button on the support case page doesn't work for me. FWIW, I do have cookies enabled, and I have tried to submit a support case using both Internet Explorer and Firefox. Could someone at PhaseOne pick this up? If you like, I can report the detailed substance of the support case description in this thread. As I mentioned in my previous post, CO 7 is useless for me in its current condition; the foggy previews make adjustments meaningless.

    Hi Michael,

Regarding the upload problem, did you click on the actual "Upload" button? You have to. In other words, once you selected the file(s) and you are brought back to the page where you're typing and describing your problem, there is the "Upload" button you have to click. Once clicked and depending on the size, you'll see the upload progress bar.

    Michael,

I am not seeing the "fogginess." Perhaps it will be better if you provide a screen capture of what you mean. I live near the San Francisco bay area and when it gets "foggy" here, your visibility is next to non-existent to the extent that if you don't have to drive, people don't drive around on freeways.

In context, I know your symptoms to mean unclear, such that you cannot make objective decisions on how to additionally modify your RAW files. I am using an nVIDIA GT 430, the supported entry-level openCL card. My preview size is 1680 pixels, the highest resolution my monitor displays natively.

Hi, I have the CaptureOne 6 and Capture One 7 installed in trial mode but I have noticed that Capture One 7 image preview cannot be as clear as the Capture One 6. It looks like if it has a foggy layer over it. What can this be? Help please.

Ronald, I appreciate your interest in this problem. I was finally able submit a support case. And foggy means just that. Preview images look like they are seen through a faint haze. Not a thick pea soup fog, just a faint haze. Think of it as a loss of contrast. Since many users are getting good results, the problem is very likely with my setup, but nevertheless at least two of us have the problem.

I opened a support case on this topic, and to make a long story short the problem was "operator error!" Foggy previews can result from an inappropriate choice of proof profile. In my case, it was caused by the fact that I had forgotten that I had applied the profile of my online print service. Naturally there is a small loss of quality compared to originals -- that's why we proof images prior to printing them. For anyone checking this thread with the same problem, just make sure your proof profile is set to something appropriate to your monitor, such as sRGB or Adobe RGB. Unless you are actually proofing your images for printing, of course! 😉
