I just want to remove small imperfections in the image, like a tiny leaf floating in the water that seems out of place

Usually I'm able to do simple retouching with cloning.
Removing unwanted trees or disturbing objects.
If it gets too complicated I'll use Photoshop.
C1 is not meant for manipulation if I understand. 😊

If I wanted to remove a small leaf in the water using C1, I would proceed like this .

    (1) Create a local adjustment layer using the heal option rather than the clone option.

    (2) Press B for brush and adjust the size of the brush with [ and ] keys to a suitable size.

    (3) Hold down Alt (I'm on a Mac, but I think it's the same on Windows) and click where I want to copy from (presumably a patch of water that is a suitable colour, etc to what you want to replace the leaf with.

    (4) Let go of Alt and brush over the leaf. (While you are brushing, it sometimes shows something from an odd bit of the image, but resolves itself when you are finished.)

If you want to check the area you have brushed over, press M for mask to see the mask you have drawn. If you think you have done too much use E instead of B to remove some of the mask.

It generally works quite well for me. I'm still on v10, but I don't think it will be different on v11.

Ian thanks! I'm sure that's correct & it worked. I get confused because I create a layer, press b but get a + symbol in place of the usual brush circle (maybe that's because it's now a heal layer?). the + doesn't seem to respond to [ and ].

Also I sometimes get a message:

    click to select & pan
control click on layer to pan
    alt click to set source
alt click & drag any points to pan both source & destination points

    Thanks again!

If you are only seeing a + it may be because your brush is too small to display a circle. Once you get below a certain size it doesn't show. While you have a brush you can use [ and ], but you can also right click to bring up a dialog box with various options including a slider for brush size.
