Contained in variant problem

Not sure if anybody else has this issue or not but every time i use a specific style from the User Styles menu, it shows up correctly when i initially apply it. But when i close the app and return to it later, my styles have disappeared. When I go to check the styles and presets menu, the style shows up but has the message "(Contained in variant)." Anyone else have this issue? If so, have you managed to correct it yet?

  I can not reproduce the issue. I have not see this 'contained in variant' message before.
  
  Are you on CO 8.3? Have you created a new session or catalog with this version and tried again?

  I'm having this in C1 v9.0.3 and I can't figure out what it's about. It's making it very difficult to apply a present, edit it, then update the existing preset (In Lightroom, you right click a preset and click 'Update with current settings')
  
  Also I notice that the .costyle vanishes from the /AppData/Local/CaptureOne/Styles50 folder shortly after being saved.
  
  Rapidly losing faith in the software at this point.
