Best Sync Annotations Strategy?
I like to prepare my best workflow strategy between MediaPro (MP) and PhaseOne (P1). I just started with both software tools, but are confused by options and some limitations.
I have about 20000 old JPG files imported in the MP library and just started with RAW photography. During creation of metadata for the JPGs (which is quite time consuming) I need to manipulate a few JPGs with P1 for picture shows. However I identified the following issues:
Thank you for any best practice tips.

I have about 20000 old JPG files imported in the MP library and just started with RAW photography. During creation of metadata for the JPGs (which is quite time consuming) I need to manipulate a few JPGs with P1 for picture shows. However I identified the following issues:
- The option to create XMP sidecar files for JPG does not prevent from JPG file modifications during sync annotations export. I assumed, that just the small XMP is updated and not the JPG? With this the regular backup volume and time for my picture collection is much larger than necessary. Why are XMP and the JPG files both updated?
- Does it help to write protect the JPGs?
- Is there any benefit from using XMP with JPG files?
- How do I know, which media files have updated information in the MP database? Do I need to start the sync annotations export ALLWAYS for ALL 20000 files? This gives a volume of 50 GByte for every backup of my picture collection.
- Some other users in the forum reported about problem with duplicated keywords in P1. I experienced such effect also and I fear, that P1 might affect metadata. Is there a need to be carefull with the autosync option in P1?
- If metadata and pictures are modified with CaptureOne (C1), how do I tell MP which files are updated. Do I have to process again all 20000 files with sync annotations import?
Thank you for any best practice tips.

I tested XMP synchronization with write protected photo files. The results are not good:
When the photo file is write protected, the XMP is not updated, even when the MP setting is "create always XMP sidecar files". When the XMP file is write protected (not really a useful option) the photo file is however updated.
For my Panasonic camera with RAW files I need the conversion to DNG in order to be able to use CaptureOne. So the perfect support of RAW files in MediaPro is not sufficient. But the drawback with DNG is the update of embedded XMP information even with external XMP files. See also the blog http://damiensymonds.blogspot.de/2012/02/to-dng-or-not-to-dng.html
