Keeping v11 along with v12 ?

Your new licence key for V12 should also activate V11 and older versions. Just reactivate V11 with the new key.

You can install the versions side by side so long as each has its own directory for the installation. Just remember that any work you do in V12 is not backwards compatible to V11. But any work you do in V11 can be moved up to V12.

If you are using catalogues (or in particular A SINGLE catalogue) you may need to consider how you wish to deal with needing both a V11 and a V12 version at the same time. It is entirely possible but you need to have a plan that you will feel comfortable with.

My understanding is that if you purchase an upgrade to v12, your old activation code for v11 no longer works but you can use your new v12 code for v11 as well.

Also if you have already imported images under v11, they will be on the v11 processing engine and they will NOT be updated to the v12 engine automatically, which means that your edits under the previous version don't get change unless you want them to be.

Thank you very much for your helpful comments. Consequently, I will reactivate C1 v11 with the new code once the trial period has ended and additionally install C1 v12 in a separate folder.
In fact, I have to find out how to proceed if I want to process some collections or special files of the catalogue with C1 v12 without affecting the ones I already had tweaked with C1 v11 (or still prefer to set up with C1 v11 later). I think it would be easy with sessions. But as said, the collections are part of a catalogue since they originally had been imported from LR into C1 v11. So the workaround is more complicate, I guess.
Actually I don't need both v11 and v12 after my current project will be finished. But I don't want to run into the risk of different settings and outputs of similar motifs within the same project due to the changes of the engine in v12.

You are overthinking the matter and making it way to complex.

Install CO12 after you finished the current project. Now that you know you can reactivate CO11 with the CO12 key, there is no time pressure. Your work is key, the software version second.

That said, I do not anticipate changes in color in your images after the CO12 upgrade.

Tip: make a catalog backup every day and before the CO12 upgrade.

Tip: perform a verify of the catalog frequently and just before the upgrade and after you have opened the catalog with CO12. Note that you can not open the catalog in CO11 once you have opened it with CO12.

Therefore, install CO12 after you finished your project.
