Strange colors with Canon 5D II

It's the same with the profile for the Pentax K3: pure yellow shifts towards orange. Such color deviations are unfortunately common in the CO1 profiles. Only way to solve it, is by use of the advanced color editor, and resave as a new default profile.

Is there a "Generic v2" for that camera?

It might be a little better.

    1. Is there a C1 ICC for your camera?

    2. Are the Base Characteristics/ICC Profile and View/Proof Profile set to the same profile?

NO - Proof profile is Adobe RGB, I try different profiles like Fogra 39(CMYK profile), sRGB, Wide Gamut RGB, ProFoto RGB same result 16-20% Cyan in Yellow and Reds, in proofscale and package 😊

Ah well - welcome to a Capture One problem with (mainly Canon) colour profiles that some of us have been complaining about for years.

I have a strange problem with colors

Sadly, not "strange" (in the sense of unknown or uncommon) at all...

Have to say in C1's defence that this is not my experience.

I shoot a lot for repro and the colour, with some editing, is excellent.

I'm working with Canon, and the default is a bit red, but it's easily corrected.

    Don't give up yet! 😊

Ps. While the old Kodak colour card allows you (or the printer) to make a direct match for comparison purposes, it does not allow you to edit to known values. To the best of my knowledge there are no known RGB values for this product in Adobe 1998 or any other colour space. For small products like these, try editing to a mini Gretag CC. Also, while most sources will say that you should take a white balance from the second lightest patch on a Gretag CC, because it's the most neutral (which it is), it's not strictly neutral. On the other hand, a basICColor grey card is totally neutral AND you can get a gamma from it.

We shouldn't still have to work around such an obvious problem - not after all this time.

Interestingly, with Capture One 9, Phase One has introduced a v2 profile for the 7D Mk II, and it's a lot better.

So they took on board our argument that the 7D Mk II profile was too orange/red - and ignored what I've said all along, which is that to fix profiles on a camera-by-camera basis is to miss the point that this is a systemic and pervasive issue.

As Zing's circumstances seem to demonstrate.

That said: Zing, one pretty easy and effective way to get past this is to try some profiles from cameras older than yours (although - has to be said - the 5D Mk II is pretty old): the older cameras had far less garish default profiles, and it's not hard, if you find one that you like, to change its name in the OS to be recognised as the default for your camera.

To give you a sense of this issue though: the profile I used to use to fix the horror of my 70D and 7D Mk II colours was - you guessed it - the 5D Mk II profile. It's actually a lot better than most newer profiles, and the fact that it's still no good for you probably gives you a sense of just how bad things have been for some of us...

Apparently, I don't have this problem with the Canon EOS-5D MKII Generic profile.

Debatable - several of the swatches in that image look obviously "off" to me...

OK. I compared the image on my display with the ColorChecker itself in proper lighting conditions and I also compared the image displayed in C1 with the same image displayed in Lightroom CC 2015 (with a custom camera profile of mine). I have to admit that the pure yellow swatch in C1 is a little bit greener. Nothing as spectacular as what zing has shown but there's a difference.

I have tried to convert my DCP profile for the EOS 5D MKII generated with Adobe DNG Profile Editor into an ICC profile by using dcp2icc. Unfortunately, this doesn't work : when applying that profile in C1, the image becomes washed out (desaturated) and overexposed.
