It must be a very popular download right now - I'm getting less than 50 kb/s!

Hmmm... A bit of an anti-climax if you're not a "Pro" user: none of the interesting new stuff like the new NR processing is in the non-pro version.

The website and the release notes both kinda suggest otherwise...

Of course I can't argue with anybody about what is interesting stuff and what's not, but when I split the 'what's new' list from the release notes in CO 5.1 versus CO 5.1 Pro/DB, I must say that users of the non-Pro version have something to be thrilled about. Note I did some editing to split features. Of course you can't blame Phase One for making the Pro version even more attractive; it gives you something to think about... 😉

Capture One 5.1 offers new features and enhancements over 5.0.
The following new features apply to all versions:
    • Multiline fields the metadata tool.
    • New metadata fields including GPS information in the metadata tool.
    • New preference determining how to handle conflicting metadata during load.
    • Capture One gains basic color editor, clarity tool, full metadata editing and predefined workspaces.
    • New preference to disable JPEG/TIFF editing.
    • New auto adjust item for the toolbar
    • New size options for the focus tool
    • Aspect ratios available directly from the crop cursor tool.
    • New welcome screen.
    • Customizable toolbar on Windows (already on Mac).
    • New option for naming without appending numbers.
    • New camera raw file support
    And for CO5 Pro/DB add:
    • New spot type ideal for removing imperfections in images.
    • New advanced noise reduction tool.
    • New advanced recipe options controlling what metadata are included in processed files.
    • New inverse color slice feature in the color editor.
    • New style selector item for the toolbar.
    • New size options for the process recipes tool.
    • New Auto Pause option to determine how auto selection of images works during capture.
    • New Importer option for setting when to select import folder or to notify upon completion.
    • Sorting now including sort by process state and smarter sorting by name.
    • New camera tethering support

The following enhancements apply to all versions:
    • Clarity tool now allowing negative clarity values useful for portrait work.
    • Streamlined Edit All Selected replaces old Edit Primary feature.
    • Better performance when selecting a recent folder and doing freehand rotation of images.
    • Generally improved interactive speed.
    • EIP support for all supported RAW files types.
    • Improved colors for Phase One P65+ and P40+.
    • A number of other enhancements and bug fixes.
    And for CO5 Pro/DB add:
    • Workspaces now including the toolbar configuration.
    • Fixed issue with tethered capture on 64-bit versions of Windows if the computer has 4GB or more installed memory.

Oh, I'm blaming anyone for anything, Paul - I just think the release notes could have been much clearer: they do imply that "Capture One 5" (not just Pro) gets the following "highlighted new features":

    New features:
    • New spot type ideal for removing imperfections in images.
    • New advanced noise reduction tool.
    • Multiline fields the metadata tool.
    • New metadata fields including GPS information in the metadata tool.
    • New advanced recipe options controlling what metadata are included in processed files.
    • New preference determining how to handle conflicting metadata during load.
    • New inverse color slice feature in the color editor.
    • New preference to disable JPEG/TIFF editing.
    • New auto and style selector items for the toolbar.
    • New size options for the focus and process recipes tool.
    • Aspect ratios available directly from the crop cursor tool.
    • New welcome screen.
    • New option for naming without appending numbers.
    • Customizable toolbar on Windows (already on Mac).
    • New Auto Pause option to determine how auto selection of images works during capture.
    • New Importer option for setting when to select import folder or to notify upon completion.
    • Capture One gains basic color editor, clarity tool, full metadata editing and predefined
    workspaces

There's a bit of "reading between the lines" needed to spot that it's only the last bullet point that documents what Capture One 5 (non-pro) gets - and even then, it can be read as meaning that Cap One gets these as well.

It's not a problem, but there's an unfortunate level of ambiguity here.

I read it differently. More than half of the bullets in the release notes apply to all versions, that includes non-Pro, as I explained in my previous post (but perhaps not clear enough). Only the last bullet applies to the non-Pro explicitly and reveals that three former exclusive Pro features (and that goes back to CO 3 days) are now available in the regular version. That's not ambiguity, that's outrages! Please stop moaning, enjoy the new software!

I use 5 standard. I am happy to see at least a few new additions.

As to the "predefined workspaces" they seem more of a liability than a help. I see two available: 'default' and 'simplified', but what I don't see it at least one 'user defined' My standard workspace is user defined so if I select one of the two available workspace options it goes away and I need to manually re-set up to get back to my standard. Hence a liability if I ever select one of those two those options (as I did to learn what they did and hopefully never again)

The ability to save (and restore) a custom workspaces is a CO5 Pro feature. The standard version now has two default workspaces in addition to one you can create yourself but not save and temporarily exchange for another one.

I understand. But standard should allow at least one user defined, otherwise selecting one of the two presets can lead to more headache then help. Having one user preset in standard vs. unlimited in pro would still differentiate pro.

At least it should have an 'undo' to get back to the workspace one had before if one picks one of the predefined workspace presets.

    Hi

I also got the impression that the Clarity functionality would be supported by C1 5.1 (non-pro), but was disappointed to find that it was not. The Clarity tool was in fact specifically mentioned on the web page describing C1 5.1 (see http://www.phaseone.com/en/Software/Cap ... tures.aspx).

Am I the only one wondering here?

    Best regards

Yes, because you can find the Clarity tool in CO 5.1 ( including non-Pro) as per release notes and discussed here rather verbose in this thread. You find the tool on the Exposure tool tab. Hope this bring some clarity? 😉

I initially could not find clarity tool either, for some reason was looking in focus area, then boom, there is was under exposure.

The basic color editor and clarity are real nice to have in non pro. Thank you.

Now I need to learn how to use them as more than just an effect. I did do a bit of green saturation boost with color editor which came out nice on foliage.

I found the Clarity tool afte some searching. Trouble was, it wasn't on the tab where I expected it to be.

Some features catch you by surprise 😉

I cannot see the clarity tool using my non pro version of 5.1. Does not appear under the exposure tab as suggested. Is it a mac only feature?

Nope - here it is on my Win (XP) version:

If you haven't already done so, restart your machine - might make a difference.

Convincing display Keith, great work. The Clarity tool seems to be the best hidden feature in CO 5.1 for the time being. 😉

I must be honest and say that I couldn't find it either to start with - I am certain that it wasn't on the Exposure Tool section initially, then (I'm convinced! 😉) it just appeared!

No sign of the clarity, nothing under the curves section, just a big black space. Using 5.1 build 36421. This reply after a restart with a new import.
Running at 1920 x 1200. Tried tools on right (my default) tools on left, thumbnails left, none, underneath - no joy.

Doesn't really matter where it might be, just add it to where you want it.

I can not see clarity tool to. I re-install, tried tools at all positions. Nothing.
    It is a real "bug".

Deactivation and reactivation helped me when I couldn't get the focus tool to show in a previous update.

    Kind regards, Michel

To add, removing the preferences file (user.config) from you user's profile folder might help or recreate the session file (less likely to help but worth trying) a.k.a. Capture One.col50

This advice applies to Pro/DB users.

    Thanks, Michel... appreciated.

The v.5.1 updates (clarity tool, color editor, possibly others) were missing when I updated C1 (non-Pro), and I thought I was going mad as I couldn't find them! Not helped by C1 always being somewhat (deliberately?) vague as to what's actually in C1 (non-Pro). 🤓

    Deactivating/reactivating sorted C1 out.

However, C1 settings returned to their defaults - a bit annoying as their defaults aren't my defaults...!

(NB: Phase One - another bug to be sorted...?)

    Hi.

Like Rich1 I have deactivated and reactivated C1 5.1 Lo & behold clarity and color editor have appeared!

I had also tried removing col50 etc so now I have to set up the whole thing again!! I've a feeling of deja vu re. this from a previous update. Not good.

    Thanks everybody Ray

I didn't need to de/reactivate to get the tools to appear - I did nothing specific, although like others I couldn't find them for love nor money originally.

I did have to reboot my machine before I could get the Progress Indicator to display the progress of proxy generation though.

    hi

that problem I had too first, no "clarity" found. So I completely uninstalled all Capture One directories, especially those user.log from previous updates (as v.4, v5.02) then reinstall Capture One v5.1. As I ran again Capture One "clarity" was found.

    I hope this helps.. 😄

Where does the workspace get saved to? I want to tranfer my saved workspace to another machine and to be backed up.

    Thanks,

Problem here. With CO5/Win the workspace is stored in the preference file, along with other settings unique to a particular system.

Are you saying there is no way of transferring the workspaces to a new Windows machine? Also, a recent upgrade to CO6.2 has deleted all my workspaces... I tried CO support and they say the workspaces are in "C:\Documents and Settings\<UserName> \Local Settings \Application Data \CaptureOne", but there is nothing there about workspaces - plenty on saved styles etc, but no workspace...
