Change opacity of styles with layers
I have some styles and would like to change their opacity with the newly introduced slider at the layers. But somehow nothing is happening. Does it simply not work or am I doing something wrong. I would appreciate any suggestion as this would be a really great and helpful feature. Thank you!

It should work, and I can make it work? So how are you going about it? I have just tried by
(1) creating a layer
(2) filling the layer (or save time by creating a filled layer in the first place)
(3) applying the style
(4) adjusting the opacity slider to suit.

Hi Ian,
thank you very much for your reply! Yes it works now. I didn't create a 'New Filled Layer', that's why. But with the styles that I am using unfortunately not all tools are supported yet. So I do get those pop up messages "Do you want to apply Kodachrome_40s partially? The style Kodachrome_40s contains the following settings that cannot be applied to a layer: Color Editor - Basic"... but I am confident that Phase One are now moving towards making all their edits compatible with layers.
At the moment not all of the C1 adjustments are supported by layers, but the developer seems to be keen to fix that in further updates.
So hopefully at some point later this year we'll be able to apply our styles to layers and adjust their strength or even mix them. Best wishes, Micha0 -
If the Styles are your own settings you might want to consider changing the Colour tool adjustment to make use of the Advanced Tab adjustments rather than the Basic Tab adjustments.
If they are styles you have obtained from another source it might be worth checking to see if they have been updated. I believe some have.0 -
...plus there is at least another edit too that doesn't work with opacity/layers yet, the 'Film Grain' setting. I am getting the same 'pop up warning'. 0 -
Yes the styles are from two other sources, really good manufacturers and I am using their latest updates. And I have already raised the issue with C1 and hopefully it will be implemented at some point that the settings from 'Colour Editor - Basic' can be used. 0 -

If you find some of the Webinar videos related to The Colour tool you will likely find a recommendation to use the Advanced colour editor rather than the basic colour editor for a number of reasons. In effect the Basic Colour Editor tool was all that there was for the original Express version of C1 and that is also true of the Free Sony Express version.
Since layers were introduced and covered the use for the colour tool it has been the Advanced version that is supported not the basic version. There are other options available to do what the basic tool does.
The Style vendors may have a bit of a problem if they see good custom from Sony Express users and wish to offer only one version of the style users for all C1 versions without taking the new Layers functionality into account.
I guess they still work as before on the Background "layer" so nothing lost there.
If you have a look at the release notes for V11 you will see that there is a comment about some of the tools not being layer enabled.
HTH.

Hi Grant,
Thank you very much for your reply! Yes they bot do also use the advanced Colour Editor in addition to the Basic one. Don't ask me why, but I do assume that either C1 will finally enable the opacity usage of the Basic CE on layers, or the developers of the styles will do something. It's just a question of time and it still looks fab without those options being available yet 😉
Best wishes, Micha0 -

Yes, it was told by Phase One that not all the tools would work with the new layers, and "film grain" was in the list.0
