If You Like C1/4, Let Me Know
I was pretty happy running the beta of C1-4 in Tiger but am one of the many disappointed that 4.5 is Leopard only. Now, I'm faced with an OS update & read nothing but bad press and negative feedback about 4.5.1 & 4.5.2. Before I run out and go to the trouble of an OS update, I want to hear that "someone" is happy with C1 4.5.2. --I process P25 images and Canon raw files. Does anyone like this software or should I stick with 3.*?

No Matter what I do, I keep getting continuos crashes in C1 4.5.2.. My System is Mac Pro 2.8 Quad-Core Intel Xeon running Mac Os X 10.5.5. with 8 GB Ram. My setup is the Phase One H20 connected to a Hasselblad. Never have any problems with CI Pro 3.7.8.
I think that Phase One need's to look at this program seriously and test it before it is released to the public. C1 4.5.2
is not a stable app.

Gregory, I hope you have an Intel Mac already, otherwise you need a hardware upgrade as well for CO 4.5. This release needs some tuning, no doubt. Whether it will work for you or not is hard to determine from the postings here. Forums like these are mainly visited by users who have problems and they are right to come here. Since its release a month ago, CO 4.5 already had two maintenance releases (on Mac) and more will come, I suspect. Number is satisfied users has increased but there is still work to do. You might perhaps postpone your decision.
Despite some of its weaknesses, CO 4.5 is a very interesting addition to the market and with great potential (if you want my personal opinion).0 -
Just a small question Paul , have you any connection whatsoever with Phase one
Thanks

No, they can't afford me, to expensive (just kiddin')
I am one of their software users, like most people here.0 -
I am quite happy with C1 4.5.2, (not pro) althought it seems a little bit slower than 4.1 0 -
Thanks for the replies so far. I feared I may not hear much from users who are satisfied since most who post here are looking for support & have issues with the software. I'm on a MacBook Pro (Intel) 10.4.9 and for the most part, do like 4.1 although 3.7 was much easier & faster to navigate/learn. From what I'm hearing, it does seem though that more feedback is needed before updating my OS and moving to 4.5 Pro. Maybe a few more updates will get things worked out. This must be extremely upsetting to most since we've had our mouths watering for an upgrade from 3x for such a long time. This feels like the Vista wars. Phase better work it out and get people on board sooner than later. My P25 purchase was made & based on the decision that Phase led in the industry on the software side. In less than a year from now, I may be in the market for a hardware upgrade and if 4.5 doesn't sell me, I'll be looking at other options. 0 -
"Quote" Since its release a month ago, CO 4.5 already had two maintenance releases (on Mac) and more will come, I suspect.
Question: What was it doing being released in the first place then? More to the point, what are PhaseOne doing having the cheek to charge for it when it is patently STILL a flawed application? The backs cost enough as it is without us being used a unpaid beta testers. My current take on this is _ Fidelity release a whizzy new darkslide, theo ly problem is 'we haven't quite cracked the light tightness of the sheaths. Would you mind ensuring you only load your darkslides into your camera back in complete darkness.
I rest my case.0 -
I have been a C 1 Pro 3.7 user for a number of years. I played with C4 when it came but found it too slow to operate compared with 3.7. C4 does have some good controls which would have been nice in 3.7. However, C4 Pro seems to be a complete dog judging by the number complaints and problems people are having. No software should be produced unless it is backwards compatible. Forcing everybody to go to Leopard must have lost Phase One a considerable number of customers. Personally I have not bothered because my clients couldn't care less how I produce their files as long as they get the results they want. Phase One should remember that it takes 10 years to build a reputation and 10 minutes to loose it. They seem to be in love with the 10 minutes to loose it area where C4 Pro is concerned. Right now they would be better to keep going with 3.7.10 11 12 13 etc. I would buy it before C4 or C4 Pro period. 0 -
Credit where credit is due ,after a week of using C4 and with a few pieces of advice from my dealer and Eric at Phase one, I would have to say that C4 is giving me better files which are processing faster , and now I have read the manual the work flow is working very well ,there are a few problems the rotation tool , firewire connection ,very small slider buttons and the redraw speed to name but four . Though all things being equal I am very content with C4 and would recommend it so long as you have the right hardware

I've been using CO Pro since V1 was released on the Mac . Although improvements have been made in v 4.5.2 Pro in regard to processing speed, and conversion quality, it is my firm feeling that the present release is not as good workflow-wise, as v 3.7.9 pro. Hence to create sessions, view images (using the efficient and effective tool set) and make selects I use v. 3.7.9. For the processing of images I go to v 4.5.2, which for me is a step back in the quality and effectiveness of the workflow that established CO's reputation. 0 -
I'm still using 3.7.9
Though forced to use 4.5.2 for its hot folder (I'm using nikon D3), only tested once, 30shots, no problem.
My assistant face several crashes when playing with 4.5.2 and recommended to go back to 3.7.9.
I read also the lost files in other thread, and made me real worried.
Hoping they're going to release 4.5.3 or 4.6 soon.0 -
I'm very pleased with 4.5.2. It does a significantly better job with P45+ files (as it should) than Lightroom which is normally my "go to" application.
There are issues, though - see my "Out of Memory" thread in this forum. This problem only occurs in the Composition module when leveling images - otherwise the performance is flawless.
I use a Mac Pro and MacBook Pro with 10.5.5.

I run V4.5.2 on my Macbook Pro without issues. Now that OS X 10.5.6 is coming with much faster USB drivers, I think I'm going to enjoy C1 Pro even more. On my Win XP I run V4.5.1 also without issues. Maybe I'm just lucky but I think Phaseone has put in a lot of effort to rectify those early issues. Keep up the good work Jon, Ulf and company. 0 -
For now, and it's not the 1st time, I will be using multiple versions and additionally, Lightroom to get me through editing and processing. The ability of Lightroom to import 1.1 makes for super fast frame to frame editing (especially when you need to view @ 100% between shots). Unless CO4 can do this, I'm not sure how I could ever edit in Capture One. The rendering time for checking focus is painfully slow. As for the actual processing, the files look beautiful but the work-flow stinks. The Phase folks need to add back a little button by each setting that copies only that setting for applying to selected images. Moving through the adjustments clipboard is just way to slow in most cases. Am I missing something? In summary, CO3 on set, Lightroom to edit, CO4 to process (ugh). 0 -
Apart from some latency when browsing many file, I have had very few problems with 4.5. I miss some of the pro features from the demo, but I can't justify the cost yet of the Pro, so the LE works well.
On a Mac Pro Quad 2.8GHz Xeon with 6GB Ram its very fast rendering which I love when producing large batches of files. I've discovered a few few UI glitches but nothing serious.
I've tried Aperture and Lightroom and still much prefer C1 for speed, stability and most importantly image quality.0 -

Gregory, I agree LR is superfast for importing, but in my opinion, checking images @100% is painfully slow. In this aspect CO45 is way faster.0 -
The more I use it the more I like it. Apart from a couple of minor issues, capturing to a Macbook Pro and processing on a G5 are working fine. A few loading "events" noted (is that a euphemism for crash?) I really like the way you can set up the tabs the way you want to and the sharpening has been so much improved. Phase One has been extremely quick and helpful proposing a workaround for a capture rotation issue which they say will be fixed in an update. And the processed images are stunning.
Cheers,

Greetings-
I've had nothing but trouble with 4.5.1 & 4.5.2. Constant crashes and freezes. I'm back to CS 3 not having used my Phase 1 software for almost a month. Seems to be a real common problem.
I'm running a Mac Pro with dual 2.8's, 10 gigs ram and OS 10.5.5.
Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks,

it is clear to me that the kids @ phase have put a lot of work into this release...and after editing 1 wedding on it I have found MANY things I like and a few that are a deal breaker for me. BIG #1 is the loss of keyboard shortcuts for slider exposure adj ,etc...while the mouse over & adjust w/ scroll wheel & zoom w/ scroll wheel is great, it is soooo slow to make adjustments w. all that mousing ( for hundreds of candid images, for example ).
I also second the apply just these settings to selected images button comment
and the batch rename, unless Im missing it, isnt as flexible as it was in V 3.* ( at least for my workflow, I like to rename the raw files for a job )
I have had good success w/ it on a macbook ( 4gig ram) and no success on a g5- which I am gathering is an issue w/ a non intel machine.
Looking forward to more tweeks & the return of some old features....

At the beginning I was very dissapointed with 4.5 pro demo (being used to 4.1 and on).
Now I am working exclusively with 4.5.2 on MB pro! It has some flaws,
main for me is no tethered for nikon... sometimes it loses the settings, it's true...0 -
Hi
I could not work C1/4 either
I found that Capture-u.com has a very useful course on there web site
I had already bought the one they did for 3.7 which was also very helpful explaining the things that don't make much sense until you know
I now find C1/4 very good indeed although it is not working properly with my new canon 5d/2
