See this article on the Digital Outback site:

...and note particularly the free B&W profile made available there. I have had very satisfactory results with it, especially using the Film High Contrast curve and adjusting tonality via levels, all in the RAW conversion and without resort to PS.

Thanks Nill. I will give it a try. Why cant C1 have the same B&W feature in their Windows version as in the mac version?

Well, they're moving (slowly) towards a convergence of the Win & Mac versions. Maybe by v4.0 they'll be the same.

Can someone tell me where to place the B&W .icm profile? Which folder?

    Thanks!

In XP it's C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\spool\\drivers\\color\\. Look in there and see if you see some other .icc or .icm files. If not, do a system search for *.icm files and see where they are lurking.

Also when you try to select it in CO make sure the \"Show only Phase One profiles\" box is NOT checked.

There are 2 ways to convert a color RAW image to a grayscale image upon processing.

At the Process Tab > at Color Management Workflow > pulldown the choices and see Convert to generic grayscale

You may also establish grayscale as the Destination profile under:
Workflow > Show color management settings > Output destination ( Working Space )
There you will see 2 choices of Phase One Gray Profile 1.8 and 2.2
Since everyone has their own B&W/Grayscale expectations or Tastes, finding the right tools/profile/workflow is whats important.

    Sincerely,

From the article by Uwe Steinmueller (6/10/2003)

In addition the \"Color Saturation\" can be used to change the B&W rendering. You can even try to mess with the single RGB channels in Levels (Curves unfortunately don't allow this in C1 right now)

This is now possible. At the Exposure tab uncheck Preserve Color Balance and the RGB levels can be adjusted individually.

    Cheers,
