C1 6.0 Pro 64-bit - Big Memory Leak?
I started evaluating C1 6 Pro along side of my trusty C1 5 Pro. I like the new keystone tool a lot but C1 6 Pro seems to be having massive memory leaks or a huge appetite for memory.
The session consists of 334 Canon 5D Mark II CR2 files in a same folder. When I started C1 6.0 Pro, it was using a few hundred MBs. An hour later, it jumped to 2GB. Now it is at about 2,575,372K as I type this.
Every time an adjustment is made or an image is processed, the memory seems to go up a notch. From time to time, C1 6.0 Pro stops responding to keystrokes. At one time it crashed completely. This is when I started tracking its memory usage. I do not remember C1 5.0 Pro being this way.
The operating system is the Windows Vista 64-bit with 8GB memory. The CPU is Intel Q9550S quad core. The video card is Nvidia GeForce 9500GT with 512MB memory. The latest Nvidia driver is installed. The driver version and date are 8.17.12.6099 and 10/16/2010.
Has anyone encountered this problem? Does the memory usage eventually settle?

I can't say I see the same behavior but we would welcome you to create a support case so we can verify the issue. 0 -
Drew,
Thank you for the reply. I did open a support case (81927) but have not heard anything back yet.
The memory seems to level itself out. I am currently working on a set of 482 CR2 files. The memory stabilized somewhat and is now at 2,619,864K according to the Task Manager.0 -
Hey Nelson,
Are you familiar with CleanMem?
http://www.pcwintech.com/cleanmem
This is a great little freeware tool for cleaning all memory no longer used but not released back from processes.
I use it when working with Adobe Premiere which is notorious for memory leaks and I find it invaluable.
Since you already opened a support case on the subject, perhaps you could put in a request some sort of a "Clear RAM Cache" feature inside C1.
Image editors designed to deal with large amounts of data often have this feature - Photoshop and After Effects are two examples that pop to mind...

Jonathan,
Thank you for the tip on cleanmem. I will try that while working with CO 6.
The Photoshop CS4 seems to have the same habit of retaining memory. Its memory footprint just getting bigger and bigger with each edit or new file. Closing all the image files does not release the memory. Exiting CS4 does (of course). I will try using cleanmem as well next time when I use CS4.
I will ask for the memory cache cleaning feature when I communicate to the tech support. Does the PS CS4 have a memory cleaning feature that can be run in the background automatically?0 -
In Photoshop you go Edit->Purge->All to clear the RAM cache. There's no automatic process. CleanMem is also not an automatic background process, but rather a small executable you run each time you want to clean the memory. It should help a bit. 0 -
I too am having some kind of leak somewhere. After I use the keystone tool, it seems to gets really slow or hickups or just plain crashes.
Windows XP 32 bit.
Did phase one use Apple open CL compiler?0 -
I am running Capture One 6 Express on a similar Windows machine.
My memory usage seems to level out at 1.85G, with the ImgCoreProcess at.45G0 -

In that case, cleanmem is more convenient. All one has to do is click on the hearts at the bottom right corner.
cleanmem works great with the CO 6.0 Pro. After cleaning, the working went way down, like under 27MB. But it comes back quickly after a few images.0 -
Thanks for the cleanmem link.
C1 6.0 (64 bit version on w7) has been crashing regularly since I started using it. Mostly while using the keystoning tool, and resulting in corrupt settings files. I love the new tools – but it was almost impossible to use them for any length of time!
I installed cleanmem yesterday and by keeping an eye on the memory usage, and cleaning once it got to about 50% (I have 8gb of ram), I managed several hours of editing (including a lot of keystoning )with only one crash. Is there a connection? Who knows, but I’ll keep on using it!
The type of crashes I’m getting with v6 are not the same as I had with v5.x. v5 was giving ‘out of memory’ errors – a lot. Although by the latest v5. It had much improved and I hardly ever saw them.
V6 is either semi -hanging , or just crashing with no error message.0 -
Hi karen2.
I would suggest you set the "Use OpenCL" to "Never" in case you experience many random crashes.

I installed C1 6 64bit on my laptop, to my surprise it kind of works.
I just browsed a few jpgs using C1, and memory usage goes up to 3.4GB (captureone.exe).
There must be something wrong. Most of the jpgs, less than 15 all in all, are very small, in the 400px range.
Due to the memory usage C1 soon becomes unusable.
Well, worth a try. Think I´ll go back to v.5..2.1. ☹️ ☹️0 -
My computer consists of:
Motherboard MSI Eclipse SLi
Processor Intel i7 920
Installed memory 12 GB DDR3
Videocard MSI N260GTX 896MB DDR3 (Latest driver from NVidia installed)
Windows 7 Professional
Capture One 6 (64bits) build 44545
All versions CP5 have been running without a glitch. Running CP6 is sometimes dreadfully. I can work for half an hour or just 2 minutes without problems but suddenly CP6 freezes. Windows is after the ‘freeze’ fully functional but CP6 doesn’t react at all.
Only by force I can leaf the program (deactivate with task manager).
Tagging use Open CL to ‘never’ doesn’t make any difference.
I haven’t de-installed CP5 so I can continue my work. Please advise!

Seems C1 6 is not compatible with the GTX260. ☹️0 -
hi Lionel
my 'use openCL' was set to 'never' by the install and is greyed out.
I assume my graphics card is not macho enough for C1 🤭
