Why is the C1 interface not neutral ?
the image background is perfect neutral but the rest of the interface has a slight reddish cast. is this intention or a bug ?

In my setup the Capture One interface has RGB value of 45,44,44. Not a reddish cast I would worry about and probably a result of my monitor calibration. In case you see more red compared to green and blue, calibrate your monitor. 0 -
I get a very small (2 point) red "spike" in some parts of the interface on my brand new (and freshly calibrated) monitor, but I wouldn't have known it unless I'd explicitly looked for it:

No cast though.0 -
i do a lot of color critical work so maybe my eyes are trained to see even very light color casts but i'm sure this is not a calibration issue . my eizos are not only very neutral but well profiled. my fear is that this is a design decision after digging the program package. if true i see it very critical and a reason to stop using c1 at all.

Don't what to tell you, Christian - you're seeing something we can't see (I've got a pretty good eye for a colour cast too - and both Paul and eye have checked tha actual colour being used, without finding any evidence of a cast), and if it's a show-stopper (seriously?), it's been there for a while.
It's hardly a bug, anyway - there's no a standard "right colour" for a converter interface.0 -
a screenshot from my Eizo 210 calibrated with ColorEyes Display...this display is years old, but still calibrates to under 2 De....while it is perfectly neutral, I do see a VERY slight red cast in the darker blacks of the interface (not on the preview background) on the dual screen Cintique 21UX (which uses a slightly lesser quality Eizo produced screen.)
I think there's an obvious conclusion.....

for everone who thinks i'm chasing a illusion go to your c1 programm open the package and check some files in the resource folder http://christianschneider.at/proof/c1_red.jpg 0 -

......sorry but you better trust your cintique 😉0 -
For some more hairsplitting fun create a black and white gradient in photoshop on a fresh 8bit RGB image and enable dithering... 0 -

I guess there's a fine interpretative line between a colour and a colour cast: a very small difference in the red channel doesn't say "red cast" to me, I'm afraid - it's just a colour with a tiny bias to red, but "close enough" (by any normal reckoning) to balanced/neutral.0 -
i always thought it is common knowledge that for color correcting images on screen the surrounding area like background or interface should be neutral otherwise our eyes get wrong adjusted, even a tiny color bias can have an effect. i have never seen such an issue with any other image editing software or raw converter . so my question is still unanswered. why is the c1 interface not neutral like lightroom , photohop, aperture….. ? 0 -
A less than 0.8% variance in one colour channel is "neutral" by any reasonable standard.
Cap One has been dark grey since v. 4 and to the best of my knowledge nobody else has reported a colour cast, so it's clearly not big issue for the vast majority.
Occam's Razor and all that...0 -
If you want dead on color use the numbers.
It really is the only way to be sure and if done properly you can have any bias you want in the interface while still achieving the color you want.
By the way, there is no definitive answer with regard to perfect color. We are free tweak the color as we see fit on our images. Color in the real world is constantly changing and I have often heard people say a naturally occurring color balance is wrong or unacceptable.0 -

..
your argument is correct for real world images but for a software interface ? sorry i simply don't get it, why must there be a color cast it makes absolute no sense. if it is by design i would call it a failure so i still hope it is a bug.0
