I exactly had the same ideas : integration of IPTC Extension fields and removal of "obsolete" fields (as Personal Categories).

Same remark also for the developpement of the product : I hope that Phase One will not forget that Media Pro is above all a DAM...

I purchased iView years ago and don't regret having done so. However, I am very surprised on how little development has been done in all these years (by MS and PhaseOne). The lack of support for IPTC Extensions and being able to convert the custom tags is indeed a big issue. I also own Lightroom 3.5 which does support the extensions but unfortunately does not have the easy tagging of MediaPro (bravo on this!). Ultimately, I will decide for one of those two applications and the one I will settle with is the one that has both easy tagging (like MediaPro) and IPTC Extensions (like Lightroom 3.5). For now I am using MediaPro because that is where I have all my images but if I would start from scratch I might decide for LR.

On another note, I don't care about all the editing features and other gimmicks. That is what I have Photoshop, Premier, etc for and I suspect that almost everybody who has a program like MediaPro or Lightroom also has Photoshop or a similar editing application. I hope PhaseOne sees that and concentrates on the core features of MediaPro rather than neglecting that part and spend resources on all these other items. I would assume that the cliental of PhaseOne also is seriously concerned that the core function of the application is using industry standards rather than proprietary stuff and that they can more their current library over to this (once PhaseOne decide to implement it).

Sorry for the long rant but it's really a rather important point for me. Btw, is PhaseOne following these forums at all to look at customer feedback?

I tried both LR and ACDSee. When I say : I tried, I mean : during a long time, including the test of many functions and with numerous photos. But the easy tagging of MP is really a fantastic "plus". For instance, ACDSee allows drag-and-drop for tagging, but only for keywords. Nothing for the other fields. Also don't forget that LR and ACDSee are not multi-catalog. More over, the LR database includes a lot of folders, etc. The only serious challenger to MP could be IDimager but for me, the problem is the langage (not avalaible in english). And high complexity due to its numerous and often useless possibilities (that you pay for).

Agree. I have Photoshop too. I am not sure for LR owners (on many forums, people using LR uses both DAM and mostly images treatment). I hope like you that Phase One will do a good product, following the rules of IPTC - including IPTC extensions !

I suppose yes (and I hope so..)

    So my questions are:

    1) When can we get support for IPTC extensions to make MediaPro compliant with industry standards?

    2) How will custom tags that now have equivalents in the IPTC extensions be moved over, both for tags in the DB and tags that have been embedded in the images?

    Thanks.

I think these would best be addressed in a support case as appose to the User to User forum. Please contact support and they'll get on it.

Did anyone ever submit this to support? What was the response?

    Thanks.
