Capture One 7 memory issues during catalog build?

Just downloaded C1 v7 and wanted to give the catalog feature a try. I am importing from an external drive my sessions from the last six months or so, about 48,000 files from Canon 5D2 and 5D3. I understand that this is a vX.0 software and that I may be throwing too many images at it in one sitting, but according to Activity Monitor C1 is using 10gb of RAM when I only have 12gb (iMac 2.8ghz i7). CPU usage spikes around 450%, which is fine, I get that it's crunching a lot of data but I'm curious about the memory usage. Is that normal? Just switching from C1 window to email to browser (2-3 tabs open on Chrome) takes 15-25 seconds with lots of spinning beach balls.

    Do you have any video files in the folders you are importing?

    Yes, I think there are some video files in the folders. Should they be moved to a different disk?
