I definitely suggest opening a support case at phaseone.com (the guys are very fast at responding) because this could be a few different things and they'll sort it out for you much more rapidly than we will on the forum.

I do have the same problem, even worse: now I can't open the session any more.
I just have a few sessions running and only one, but big (700 files), now on CO 7. Before renaming the files in this session the program behave quite normal but I was not asking much since it was the beginning of a job. So I just did just some galeries and jpg exporting. But then...
First, the renaming is dead slow. I normaly work with Aperture (which unfortunately can't handle files from a Phase One back) but you can't compare the speed when it comes to this funktion. I saw other post on this issue.

But now the session crashes right after the start. The window appears but second before the first image is showin on the screen CO crashes. I had briefly telephone contact to the support in Germany and they suggestet to delete the preferences files:

    http://www.phaseone.com/Search/Article. ... nguageid=1 <http://www.phaseone.com/Search/Article.aspx?articleid=1164&languageid=1> (Mac OS X 10.6.8 )

    http://www.phaseone.com/en/search/artic ... nguageid=1 <http://www.phaseone.com/en/search/article.aspx?articleid=1167&languageid=1> (Mac OS X 10.7 / 10.8. )

and to disable the OpenCL with a script

    http://www.phaseone.com/en/~/media/Supp ... CLapp.ashx

After following the instructions I could batch rename 200 more files but then again: crash and now starting the session leads to a new crash.

    Hope this was of help

Support ticket it is then. The batch rename wouldn't be necessary if the photos would import by capture order as I would think they should if "date" is selected in the import dialog.

Can you verify that this happens to you on 7.0.1 ?

7.0.1 doesn't crash here (MacPro early 2009, OS X 10.8.2) with batch renaming.
I rarely work in very large sessions ... but batch renaming was tested in a session containig 280 files (including about 80 LCC files that reference to even more settings in the background). Open CL is activated for preview, deactivated for processing in my prefs. Preview size is set to 1024px (I somehow feel V7's default of 2048px is too large as it doubles the cache ... as I don't work offline I don't need the large preview cache anyway).
It's slow. I mean: sloooooow. But it works trouble free. So obviously the crashes only apply to certain software configurations.

As often as I can I work with Aperture, just when I do a job with the P1 back I use C1. What is concerning the crashes I try to work with C1 v 6, or, if it happend that the shoot was imported in C1 v 7, I create a new job and drag the files in the location occordingly to their former places.... Every time I do this I think about the marketing image of Phase One and the reality and I am glad that I am not obliged to deal dayly with products of a company which poses as a Rolls Royce and runs like a ................ (insert a brand name of your choice you do not thrust)

7.0.2 will be out very soon. Along with all the new cameras (X-trans and so on) added, improved stability has been a major priority. Give it a spin when it comes out!
