Writing to camera card during tethering
Hello,
I have recently started using Capture One for tethering for some client shoots. In the past I used Lightroom but it bogged down and was unreliable. I have also used Canon's EOS Utility which works fine but then I have to import the images to a post processing tool. I wanted something like Lightroom that would do both, only with speed and reliability.
Both Lightroom and Canon's EOS Utility provide an option to write to both the camera card and the computer storage location. I understand that this was not available in Capture One in the past, but am curious if it is possible in Version 9. I could not find any such setting but I am still very new to version 9 and could easily have missed this setting.
Thanks to any and all for a reply.

I think this is a feature depending on the camera and not c1pro 0 -
+1 for this feature.
With my Canons (and those of my friends around here),
+ EOS Utility does it (Mac, Win),
+ qDslrDashboard does it (Mac, Win, Linux),
+ Entangle does it, too (Linux).
I am currently using qDslrDashboard with CO's 'Hot Folder' function to have it. But that's an unnecessary workaround.

I do it on my P65+ with no problem. Just choose to store on card from the back. 0 -

Yes, with a digital back. But not with my Canons. I tried the different settings, 'Auto Switch Media', 'Record to Multiple', with no success. I get my image into CO, but pressing 'View' on the camera results in 'No Image'. The card is empty.

Hi you may want to try this solution outlined here as it uses the Canon EOS 3 Utility, disregard the headline about 5DS/r

That's what I do, but I use qDslrDashboard instead of EOS Utility. The better solution for me.[quote="HansB" wrote:

I'm curious as to the reason you want the images on the card ? 0 -
I didn't start the thread, but I support the request to save to card and computer.
Why? That's simple. Backup. Always have a copy.
I have had a number of failures when tethering over the years, wired and wireless, not only with CO, and not only on Mac. When the connection broke up during transfer, I was left with a missed shot and sometimes a broken file on the computer. In these moments I was lucky (and happy) to have the image(s) on the card, too. And I saw HDDs/SSDs failing, leaving me with absolutely nothing.
(Yes, I am using quality stuff for internal and external drives, cables, active extension cords, powered external hubs, and whatever else is necessary.)
Some shots are too important, too unique to lose. That's why I want them on stored on card and transferred to the computer when tethering.

I'v shot tethered for clients for many years and i have not had a single failure when transferring data. The risk of having a corrupt memory card is far greater in my experience. (This includes LR, C1Pro Capture NX, Nikon and Sony Cameras.)
Having a frequent issues with broken connections indicates issues with your setup one way or the other.
For Sony cameras I'm quite confident the limitation isn't in C1Pro it's but with the camera it self to not be able to write to the card at the same time it transfer files to the computer.
It would certainly not hurt to have the option to write on the card as well, for me however a feature like the backup option (to transfer to a second location) in the import dialog for tethering would be far more useful as don't trust a memory card more then the link/cable between my camera and computer.0 -

Thar's why I write to both internal cards when shooting non-tethered.[quote="Paul Lindqvist" wrote:

It's not a frequent issue, but it hurts when it happens. If it was only my system, I would agree. But I see it on other systems of other photographers, too. I'm using CO on MBP, and I had no hiccups this year. (Fingers crossed.) The last time I saw it happen was earlier this year on a good friend's equipment: LR on a Windows Laptop with a Canon.
+1 for the second location, too.
