Red eyes removal - how?
Hello board,
I am pretty new to C1 and really start to love it. However I have not yet been able to find a tool to remove red eyes. I know they probably are not an issue with professional studio photography but in outdoor shootings I can not always avoid them and since virtually every raw converter has tools to remove them I am sure C1 does as well. So what am I missing?
I tried playing around with the color tools and spot removal but neither worked. Checking the manual and forum posts didnt give me any pointers.
Is there anyone who can point me into the right direction or is this really missing in C1?
Thanks in advance
Frank

This feature is currently not available in Capture One 5. So your best option is probably to do this in a image editor like Photoshop (Elements).
As far as I am concerned, I do not regard red-eyes removal as raw converter's task but more a post processing task for an image editor (local adjustments) although I understand the convenience of if you need it.0 -
Well, strictly spot removal or color editing wouldnt be part of the raw process either and C1 still does a remarkable job with both. And yes, indeed opening each and every image from a "red-eye series" in photoshop is a pretty cumbersome process if there is no further artful editing required for which I normally would use PS.
Anyhow thanks a lot for clearing my confusion!
I am still surprised this has not been brought up in the forum before. Am I the only one looking for this feature or worse, the only one getting red eyes when using the flash with a telephoto lens? 😉 I'd fill a support ticket asking for that feature but it feels silly doing so as a newbie user when it seems like no one else really wants it...0 -
If you are using the PRO version this may be possible using the selective color adjustment tool. Although, if your subject has a lot of Red of the same tone it may not work. However, given the specific tone of "Red Eye" I've had good success using this method when necessary. Also, in some cases it works much better than other software's as you can adjust the color/saturation as appose to replacing the "Red Eye" with "Dead Eye". 0 -
Hi Drew,
thanks for your reply!
I currently have the regular version and was wondering if I should upgrade. But I have to admit the lack of red-eye removal and automatic lens correction (with lens profiles) currently is a dealbreaker to me. As said, I love C1, the results are great and I will continue using it as my main raw processor. Its just that the lack of those (to me valuable) functions doesnt justify the pro to me personally.
I tried the pro version and found that desaturating the eyes using the color adjustment most of the time had a very visual impact to the skintones too. And of course you can bet that there is always someone wearing red clothes too 😉 So unfortunately I found the color adjustment tool pretty useless - at least when it comes to red eyes.
Since youre a staff member I might ask - would it be a good idea to submit a request or is the whole issue too "noobish" to implement or a politics decision not to implement this?
Kind regards0 -
Create a support case and I'll pass it along. The feature is useful but I don't know how it would rank on our list of priorities to be honest. Despite that however, I can pass it along just the same. 0 -
I just opened a ticket as suggested, thanks for your help and passing it along!
I am still confused as there has to be a reason why such obvious things aint implemented and nobody else already asked for it... - I must be the only one still producing red eye images with an external flash...0 -
It may have already been requested but not high on the priority list. Can't say for sure. I'll look into it with your support case. 0 -
I was using a ring flash as a fill the other day and got some red eye. Would've been great to get rid of them at the capture stage as opposed to telling the client that it can be done in Photoshop after we make selects. The Color Editor was useless since the subject was wearing something red. 0 -
It would be good to have a function to remove red eyes. I do not have them very often but sometimes when using a normal flash... 0 -
Good to see I am not the only one who occationally produces red eyes 😉
From how I understood Drew it would be great if you could create tickets with this request too so it moves up in the priority list. P1 seems to mainly focus on mid-format so it seems understanding that its not very high on their internal list.0 -
Phase One came bundled with my Leica camera. I was amazed that a red-eye removal feature was not included. I recently received a promotional email to upgrade to Capture One 5, so I checked to see whether the feature had been added and I found this post.
The lack of a red-eye removal feature prevented me from upgrading as well.0 -
Drew, it seems that a red eye feature could easily be implemented within the dust & spot removal tool. I don't have a huge problem with red eye, but have seen it some photos which would be nice to quickly fix it in RAW. Since your implementation of the dust and spot tool, and the great color editor you have, you save me from using Photoshop in many cases. This would be another case.
franky68, the red eye tool should not hold you back from an upgrade as the Pro version has greater benefits, and time saving tools. Red eye is takes no time at all in Photoshop.0
