    I was wondering also,
it appears that the effect of lens corrections can be rather strong. You can set this to 0% and your image is back as you made it. With curvature of field that is.

any chance of uploading a RAW so we can take a look at what's going on?

I've just taken a series of test shots, at different focal lengths with the 28-70, the Samyang 14mm, and the little RX100. As C1 doesn't have a lens profile for the Samyang (a slight disappointment, although it isn't what I'd call a "professional" lens, neither is the Sony 28-70), Peter's theory is upheld in that it definitely doesn't crop the image from that. Frames at 28mm from the Sony 28-70 are cropped, but if it zooms out to 32mm, its OK. The RX100 is cropped at pretty well all focal lengths, unless I do as Peter suggests and reduce the correction to zero.

This seems daft to me, surely the idea is that C1 CORRECTS the lens distortion, not just chops off the distorted bits? I appreciate that the Sony 28-70 is not the finest lens on earth, but its not rubbish, and for a recent event, as it was outdoors on a sunny day I thought I'd use that rather than the Zeiss Batis 25 I normally use for indoor period dance or re-enactment events as the zoom would be handy. I don't particularly care about no correction for the Samyang 14mm, as its a lens for dramatic effect, not deadly accuracy.

So now I need to check how I get it to default to not correcting on these particular lenses (this will require a bit of research on my part).

Having determined all this, I didn't think it was worth uploading a 85MB RAW...

I'm also desperate to get C1 to show the dates each image was taken (without having to go to the info tab for each one, as my hobby/work involves being able to rapidly date events from photos, and quickly accessing photos from a specific date. I know I can filter by date, but its a damn sight quicker to just scroll through a particular time period looking for a range of dates, which I could do in Lightroom.

    William,

I would suggest you look at the "Base Characteristics" ICC profile setting.

If it says "Standard" it's using Sony's values for lens correction and cropping out the bits considered to be too distorted or out of focus to be useful after the main part of the image has been corrected.

If it says "Generic" it using a Capture One team lens assessment.

There will be nothing for the Samyang as it does not report any values or even identify itself to the camera. (Unless your 14mm is a different version to mine.)

If you really wish to use the entire re-distorted image you can turn off lens correction for the camera/lens combination should you wish and save that as the default setting.

There are few good cases for doing so in my experience. Ultra-tight framing perhaps where the adjustment loses something on a edge that you wanted to keep, or sometimes a rotation adjustment - but that's about it. However it is your choice.

Other than updates for specific lenses or changes in the setting for your V9 installation I can assure you that in my experience V9 also cropped images that had lens corrections available for my Canon equipment including my S90 if I told C1 it was an S100!

I'm wondering what Sony camera body you are using that delivers an 85Mb raw file ... but would agree that it would be a bit large to offer to any unsuspecting volunteer offering to check functionality for you!

    HTH.
