Bad colors in Capture One 7 Pro compared to Capture One 6
Hello,
I would like to ask you for help - I purchased a Capture One 7 Pro (CO7), because I was satisfied with Capture One 6 Express (CO6). But now I have problem with colors of my RAWs. When I import RAWs which looked normally in CO6 to CO7- default settings without any manual adjustments, they look warmer, saturated in yellow, pink and purple colors. I tried few tests with Capture One 7 Pro and Capture One 6 Express. When I compare RAWs from my old Canon EOS 400D, they look the same in both versions. But if I compare RAWs from Canon EOS 7D, in Capture One 6 Express they look "normally", but in Capture One 7 Pro (both engines) they have warm colors (saturated in yellow, pink and red), both without any adjustments. For postprocessing I use EIZO monitor S2243w and graphic card GeForce GTX660 2GB. Why the same RAW behaves differently in 2 versions of software and only for one camera? For me it is kind of the waste of time, to take every RAW, which I adjusted in Capture One 6 Express and re-adjust its colors in Capture One 7 Pro when I want to use this version - brown color is purple in CO 7 Pro and in few images I can see purple fog! Is there any solution for my problem? I already created a support case and provided files.
Thank you.

Maybe it is the same problem as here:

Or this one, perhaps:

Keith, thank you for your reply, it looks like the same and it could be a possible solution for this time.
I send MRAW from my Canon EOS 7D with JPEGs from Capture ONE 6 and 7 to Tech support and I got this reply:Hi Jakub,
Thanks for this file, it illustrates the problem perfectly. I suspect the problem may be specific to MRaw and possible SRaw files as these are a different raw type than the standard CR2. I will pass it onto R&D to see if a correction can be made.
Best regards,
Phase One Support
I tried it with normal RAWs from Canon EOS 7D camera (my and another one) and found out that MRAW is really behind this problem in Capture One 7 Pro. I hope, that PHASE ONE will find a fix for this.0 -
Hmmm...
I'm not convinced that the issue is solely with the "compressed" Raw formats - I've just done a quick-and-dirty test (simply shooting the houses down the street from me) in Raw, mRaw and sRaw formats, and - in terms of colour/saturation - they're all identical.
Admittedly this result might be influenced by the fact that I use the 5D Mk II profile as my default 7D profile, but the fact remains that there are no colour differences caused by the use of the smaller formats in this test.0 -
Keith, today I tried another test - I processed 12 RAWs from my Canon EOS 7D (from different times and with different motifs) with Capture One 6 Express and Capture One 7 Pro without any adjustments with default settings. JPEGs from both versions look normally and can be used for work. Of course, that JPEGs from both versions are slightly different - more visible when compared 1:1 (especially in green or yellow color, but sometimes are these colors warmer in JPEGs from one version and sometimes from the second version), but no pink/purple "fog" is visible - that´s the most important for me.
I also tried 4 MRAWs from my Canon EOS 7D (from different times and with different motifs) in Capture One 6 Express and Capture One 7 Pro without any adjustments with default settings and JPEGs look totally different from both versions with disturbing strong purple/pink color - especially in shadows.0 -
But if, as Phase One asserts, the issue is mRaw and sRaw, then what you need to test is how images - in the same light, shot in Raw/mRaw/sRaw format - look converted in 7.
If they all look the same, the issue isn't with the formats, it's with some other difference between 6 and 7.
I think that your test has simply confirmed some difference between 6 and 7, but without establishing (or ruling out) the part the smaller formats play in the issue.0 -
Keith, as you wrote - that will be my next step. Firstly, I just wanted to know, if I made a mistake with purchasing CO7 when results compared to CO6 were awful and corrections were from hard to impossible... Now I know that problem is not in my computer or CO version, because I can work with CO7 Pro succesfully so I can do another tests. 😊 0 -
I tried some test photos with my Canon EOS 7D taking 3 types of RAWs - SRAW, MRAW and RAW - one shot per 1 type of RAW from every scene. I compared them in Capture One 7 Pro and found differences between them - MRAW is VERY saturated in pink/purple colour - pink fog is visible instead of shadows. SRAW is only a little bit saturated in pink/purple - for my eyes it looks quite good. RAWs (18Mpix) look saturated in yellow, but it can by caused by comparing them with pink/purple MRAW/SRAW. The most important thing is, that shadows look as should and no pink/purple fog is visible. So the problem is in processing of SRAW and MRAW from Canon EOS 7D in Capture One 7. 0 -
The original issue was how files looked in Cap One 7 compared to Cap One 6 - is that no longer an issue to you?
I'll restate for completeness that in my tests there is no appreciable difference whatsoever in the colours of sRaw, mRaw and full Raw 7D file conversions from Cap One 7.0 -
Keith, your previous reply But if, as Phase One asserts, the issue is mRaw and sRaw, then what you need to test is how images - in the same light, shot in Raw/mRaw/sRaw format - look converted in 7.
As I wrote previously, in my case are saturated colours (pink/purple) caused by M/SRAW in CO7 - I proved it in the last test. The original issue was how files looked in Cap One 7 compared to Cap One 6 - is that no longer an issue to you?
Maybe I formulated the question badly - I mean why my MRAWs look so awful in CO7 when I compare them to normally looking in CO6. I tried S/M/RAW of the same scenes in CO6 Express of course, but I didnť find the colour problem which I have in CO7. So the problem is caused by RAW type (M/S) in CO7Pro.I'll restate for completeness that in my tests there is no appreciable difference whatsoever in the colours of sRaw, mRaw and full Raw 7D file conversions from Cap One 7.
You wrote previously that you are using ICC camera profile different from Canon EOS 7D. Did you try it with the right profile? Of course, I cannot exclude the possibility that colour problem is caused only by my camera, but if is this true, why CO6 shows S/M/RAWs from my 7D correctly?0 -
Have you tried using the Linear Response Curve rather than the Film Curves? I found it gives me better results. Once you make adjustments you can save it as your default profile. 0
