Sort
When I sort my images by name, the sort is incorrect. For example, I have images named con1005, con21, con1. C1 sorts it in this order con1005, con1, con21, why is that? How can I get it to sort properly?

You should rename with the same amount of digits, like con0001, con0021, con1005. It is not a Capture One issue, it is a computer versus human thing 😉. 0 -
well, I don't want to rename them. OSX and Windows both sort them correctly in Windows Explorer and Finder. C1 should be able to handle it as well. 0 -

OK, you're on. Define 'properly' (re. sorting).0 -
In this case, con1, con21, con1005 0 -

there is a Windows API function that define how sorting is done based on the locality... no need to define anything, just follow the protocol... http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library ... 85%29.aspx0 -

Thanks, but I am on a Mac.0 -

I was talking about Windows because you mentioned that too ("...OSX and Windows both sort them...") - there should be a similar API call(s) on Mac and I'd expect Mac program to follow the standards more strictly (I mean the have the uniform sorting of the text strings) than on Windows platform...0 -

Exactly. My point was/is that with a different amount of digits you can't be sure. You are dependent on the operating system or the program. With an equal amount of digits you never have to worry. Don't let another outsmart you. What's more, even when your Mac and Capture One does it fine for you hypothetically, does not guarantee how it sorts on your clients computer, which can be confusing if you discuss 'the 2nd image' over the phone.
Make a system that can't go wrong: same amount of digits. Start today.0 -

I don't want to increase the amount of characters in my file names
OS sorts the files correctly, as well as other programs I've used so far
I only refer to files by their name so "the 2nd image" issue is not an issue. There is a reason why the files have names, so I can refer to them by name and not the order they appear in on one's computer0 -
I am having the same problem. And its not just with the names its with the dates too. Capture one is associating different dates and time to files that is not correct in the actual file itself. So even sorting by date does not help. I have files in the finder and the metadata that read completely different times than when it is actually taken. This is confirmed on camera and in the directory of files saved. Capture One is not reading the files correctly and is just associating any thing it wants in its sorting algorithm. 0 -
I don't know if this is quite the same issue that I am having, but there is some problem with 5.01 and 5.02 with the way the images are sorted. There are some other threads about it. They are still working on figuring it out. 0 -
NN174413UL,
The issue you have described is not quite the same. Your independent thread is a better place to address that specific issue. This thread pertains to basic naming convention and its use in Capture One.0
