EM1 to MP

Hi, we are longtime users of Expressions Media (back to iView days). We have been using Expressions Media v.1 for years, and rely heavily on it for many clients & catalogs. We were never able to secure licenses for EM v.2, so we've been a bit stuck. But apart from random crashes and catalogs getting corrupt (we keep backups), it still works decently for us.

We had an offer, however, to upgrade to Media Pro a year or two ago when it was first offered. So we purchased licenses but we've actually never installed or tried it, though, based on a lot of discussions about instability, etc.

But I recently got a new machine running Mavericks. And I've discovered some sort of bug/issue with EM1 in that it won't build preview images for 8-bit grayscale or bitmap images. Tried everything, no go. Not sure what else may be not working well, but it makes me nervous.

So I finally installed the very latest version of Media Pro to run some tests. I'm actually very surprised by how similar it is to EM1. I was expecting it to be a bit different, especially from EM v.1. And at first glance, it at least works with 8-bit grayscale and bitmap images. It also seems much more stable in retaining paths to files since we work off a server (EM1 loses associations occasionally and the reset path does not work).

- So coming from EM v.1 to the latest Media Pro (1.4.2), what kinds of known issues should I be testing or watching for?


Any input would be most welcome. We're far too invested in EM to consider anything else, and there's nothing else out there that has the organizational system that it has. And for what it's worth, we've been using an old version of EM since long after Microsoft abandoned it, so if the current version of MP is the last and it can get us a few years, we're happy with that.
