Star ratings and Nikon Capture NX2
Expression Media did not write Star Ratings to NEFs in a manner useable by Capture NX/NX2.
See this thread:
Matt Heaney graciously provided some scripts that fixed this "issue" in EM2. Doing some experimenting indicates that Media Pro behaves in the same manner. The scripts that Matt provided unfortunately no longer write those values.
Has anyone raised this as a support issue or determined a way around the "issue"?
And oh yes as can be seen from that thread, Microsoft was a much more active participant in the EM forum than Phase One personnel seem to be in this one. ☹️
thanks
Chris

So, someone else in the same boat.
I've managed to edit a couple of Matt Heaney's VB scripts to get Media Pro 1 to import labels and ratings, but no luck with exporting (though my Fast Picture Viewer codecs do recognize the changes in Windows Explorer.)
I'm happy to send the scripts if you like. I was looking here to see if there was a solution for the exporting in the forum before I started pestering tech support. I believe something has been altered to allow the two way communication with Capture.
This is clearly a work in progress, some of the dll's still say "Expression Media"
I am really happy to see that there still is a future for such a brilliant program.
EDIT: I take that back, exporting is now working also. You just have to make sure that the cache settings are disabled in NX2 then restart the program.
If there is anywhere to post the files in this forum I'll put them up for everyone.0 -
For those so inclined, here are the edits;
Follow the link above and install Matt Heaney's stuff as instructed (though under Media Pro 1, not Expression Media.)
Edit each of the scripts as follows (very easy!)
1) replace ("ExpressionMedia.Application") with ("PhaseOneMediaPro.Application") . This line occurs once in each script near the begining (around line 14.)
2) after that, look through the scripts for Expression Media in the "msg" portions of the scripts and replace it with Media Pro 1 (this is strictly cosmetic.)
DON"T replace ExpressionMedia anywhere else in the script! I expect this may change with future Media Pro updates.0 -

Chris,
The difference is....
PhaseOne sees this forum as a peer to peer forum. Posting here is almost the same as yelling out your back door.
microsoft had a community manager that would sort through the posts and help customers when possible. If need be, the information was sent to the support team. Much more efficient. The only problem was microsoft abandoned the software but never told us.0
