referenced vs imported library
Are there any advantages to importing your images vs using referenced images in Capture One 8? Also, if you someday decide not to use Capture One 8 is there an easy way to migrate your entire library to a non-proprietary format?
This information may exist somewhere but I couldn't find it. I started thinking about this when reading about a new product (not yet released) that keeps all your edits but only references your photos instead of importing them. I think the tools in Capture One are probably superior but I was wondering about being locked in to the program as I had been with Aperture.

An advantage of a referenced library is that your internal harddisk, which holds the catalog (or library in Aperture terms) does not grow as fast as a fully managed (imported inside) catalog. Note that you can view and adjust images when you are not connected to the originals.
The advantage of a fully managed catalog is that when you move it to another system, all adjustments and the originals are traveling with you. Fully managed catalog is great for smaller collections as well.
You are not locked into a system with fully managed catalogs. You can export the originals at any moment to a designated location.
