New user observations
After a few weeks using Capture One Pro as a new user I would like to offer a few comments and find out if other users have had a similar experience.
Capture One Pro is an excellent piece of software and I'm certainly glad I made the choice.
I'm using C1 version 6.4.3 on OS X 10.6.8 with 8 GB of RAM, and a Nikon D800E camera (mostly) and NEFs.
My observations are:
1/ Was disappointed to find that C1 is unable to load very large TIFF images (eg mosaic or panorama landscapes), say beyond 300 or 400 MB. I have been in communication with the software designers and understand that they are considering addressing this limitation in the future.
2/ Over the last week I have been using a Nikon D 880E tethered to C1. It does work very well except that after between between a few minutes and about 40 min, C1 loses communication with the camera and hangs. The only resolution is to force quit C1. This condition has been repeatedly reported to Phase One by its automatic bug reporting system.
3/ In the tethered camera menu, the “bubble" help of the ISO field is repeated in the balance field.
4/ The "spot" removal function is great but surely its function could easily be extended to irregular shaped user-painted areas and not restricted to circles. (Yes, I know, it would not be spot removal then!)
5/ EIP Packed NEF images do not display correctly. The image display area is reduced to a square and the image truncated. Unpacking the images results in the same images being displayed correctly.
Thanks
Peter

Hi Peter,
Thanks for sharing. Some thoughts:
@2/ Have you tried to change the auto power off feature of the camera, setting it to a longer interval or switch it off?
@3/ Same here. Have you reported this to Phase One?
@5/ I assume you refer to display in CO6 (or display in Finder). Either way, have you reported the issue and attached a sample file?0 -

Thanks for your reply Paul.
2/ Will try that but camera has been active throughout and interval between shots has varied and doesn't seem to be a factor. If this was a cause surely C1 shouldn't hang and would merely need to reconnect.
3/ No, haven't reported it but will.
5/ Yes, displayed within C1. Again, haven't yet reported. Incidentally, have noticed that TIFF files can not be packed.

TIFF to EIP: this feature is indeed not available. EIP packing is for raw files only. 0
