    Hi,
I installed CO Pro 3.7.8 on OS X 10.5.1 and loaded some 1Ds MkIII files. In Preferences of CO the preferred profile for the camera is the 1Ds MkIII Generic. So no problems here with 10.5.1 or I did not understand yours.

thats my problem, no profiles are appearing in any of the prefernce menus.....the 'recommended' and the 'show all' are empty. I only get the 'camera RGB Profile' as an option.

If you go into Preferences of CO 378, Color Management, Profile Management tab, show enabled profiles for: Camera

Do you see a list of profiles (yes/no). If yes, are these profiles checked (in the checkbox)?

Could you look in the folder where the profiles are stored, if they are installed? The folder is <volume>/Library/ColorSync/Profiles

You should see a huge list of Canon profiles to start with.
