Processed picture appears incorrect on windows desktop

I've processed a picture with the "red only" preset. When I preview the photo in windows7 photo viewer it appears correct. When I set the image to the desktop background it does NOT appear correctly. It looks like partial processing has occured with some desaturation of color but it definately falls short of the desired effect.

Any thoughts as to why this is happening?

  Probably a color management issue. Select sRGB in your process recipe.

  Thank you, Paul! You saved what little hair I had left.
  
  The profile was set to the camera profile...switching to sRGB solved the problem.
