Capture One 6 is crashing my computer.

I am using C1-6.0.1 on a MacPro Dual running OS 10.6.6. C1 has been very unstable. Not only does it crash frequently, but it is causing my computer to freeze, or rather for the hard drive to grind away ceaselessly while all other functions are disabled. The only solution is to force the computer to shut down by holding down the power button. The situation has reached the point where I literally have to shut down C1, except when I am actively using it. Keeping it open while I am using other applications, e.g. Photoshop, is fraught with hazard.

I have set "Open CL" to "Never," as recommended in some other threads, but this has not helped.

Any thoughts? As much as I like the new functionality of C1-6, it is becoming a huge headache.

    I would not be at all surprised if this is correct. Still, did you repair permissions and rebuild your hard drive?

    I did the permission repair, need to get a program to rebuild the main hd.

    So far the 32 bit mode is much more stable. Even with the Open GL set to Auto.

    Spoke to soon i guess - while it seems it is a Bit more stable in 32 bit mode, i did just get a msg that said:
    "out of Memory, restart Program".

    Then it crashed.

    And Again.

    I just finished installing additional memory (increasing RAM from 9 to 16 Gb). I will do everything that I can to force a crash over the next several days and then report on the outcome.

    There is free software called OnyX that can repair and rebuild your main HD. It does not appear to be able to work on other drives, however. I have used it with no untoward side effects. You might give it a try. Drive Genius 3 is my main disk maintainence program.

    For those who are using a MacBook Pro and think they have a RAM problem (Mine never crashes with C1 and 8 Gb of RAM)…

    8 GB of RAM in a 2008 Macbook Pro
    OWC made a very interesting discovery on the 2008 Macbook (and) Pro. These laptops were thought, and it was shown in tests, to be able to work with up to 6 GB of RAM but no more. However, it was discovered that some of them were able to fully use 8 GB of RAM. It appears that they all have in common an update EFI to modify the behavior of the Superdrive (to reduce the noise at start-up), which was released in 2009, but all the laptops that got that update do not support 8 GB of RAM. In fact, it appears that there were two updates and that the second one replaced the first without any warning and for people who had already updated, the second one didn't appear in the Software Update menu.
    The following models are concerned:
    13" MacBook UNibody 2.0GHz et 2.4GHz
    All 15" MacBook Pro 2.4GHz
    All late 2008 15" MacBook Pro 2.53GHz with Express Card
    All late 2008 15" MacBook Pro 2.8GHz with Express Card
    To support 8GB of RAM, the ID and Boot Rom have to be respectively MacBookPro5,1 and MBP51.007E.B05 or MacBook5,1 and MB51.007D.B03. …

    So far so good. I have been trying to stress my system maximally by rapidly jumping from one Session to another. I have numerous other applications open, including CS5 with about ten photos loaded in it. These are the conditions that previously caused C1-6 to stall and crash, but thus far, nothing of the sort has happened. So, the additional RAM and the hard drive maintenance seemed to have made a difference, at least on my 4 year old MacPro Dual. It is possible that newer computers with faster processors and more cores may not require as much memory. Hopefully, my problems have been solved, but I will not know for sure until I have put C1 through many hours of my normal workflow.

    I have a theory on why it constantly crashes on my machine (mac pro octa core, 10.6.😎

    I've noticed the program (Capture 1 6.2.2 and used others but this is most stable) tends to give the pinwheel of death, after processing a batch of files out. The program then grabs up 144+ processing threads. Even when C1 is done processing it still has control of these threads. Its at this point the program starts to bug out for me.

    Check your activity monitors.
