It is very time consuming to file a report every time there is problem in co 7 pro, because I have to many paid shoots, this software is not advisable to be use for working photographers, very unreliable software.

This morning I attempted to open the catalog in c0 7 pro, every time i open it keep on crashing. it took me expletive 20 minutes before c0 7 pro decided not to crash.... Tell your development time to make your software usable and reliable with minimal issues,

for working jobs - why would you ever use catalogs instead of sessions?

I still use 6.4.5 on set as there are no features in v7 that help or improve tethered capture, I might then process in v7. but as a long time C1 user I've learned to have options - like older versions. that's just they way it is. but please dont come on here ranting and be rude.

For every crash there is a crash report. For every report there is an explanation of the behavior. Please provide us with these details so we can assist you.

I don't see any point using older version of c0 pro, because co 7 pro should have been stable enough to run, they should have address instability issues of co 6 pro.

I'm with edwards51 on this. Stick with what works reliably and always have a backup plan/workflow. I have had days when nothing wants to work and have had to move to option three to get working. Having worked with macs since 1984, I have learned patience with ALL software upgrades--system, utility, networking, graphic design, photography--you name it, there have been major upgrades from companies far larger than phase one with far more resources that have left users howling for blood for months. At it's core i see tremendous potential with v7 and am willing to wait while it stabilizes. Y'all have a good day.

    This is interesting.

Before my recent hardware upgrade, needed to get to a 64bit system, I was condiering mosing to Mac. I have always been a Windows user or sometimes Unix or Vax or whatever in a commercial environment. Mac only once, for about a year in the mid 90s when working on contract in an all Mac at the desktop company. They changed 6000 people worldwide to Windows after I had been working with them for about a year so my exposure to Macs was quite short.

But so many people in the imaging industry seem to use them that I thought it might be a good idea to follow, despite some misgivings along the lines that Tom1411 has outlined.

In the end I stayed with Windows as I need it for other software and could not justify the cost or the learning curve of running the two systems.

Now I would be he last person to claim that Windows is wonderful and nothing within it can be assumed to be error free. However C1 V7, in so far as I have experienced it in the last 4 weeks, seems to be working fine. A few odd happenings from time to time but not moreso than any of the other applications installed - including IE which crashed totally earlier today. I have not looked at Catalogues since I like sessions. I have looked at Canon tethering and could not find a way to break it when testing, though I appreciate that a working environment may give a different impression and I am not using the latest greatest bodies which may be a factor.

Whilst I can heartily sympathise with anyone whose work is being made harder by system problems of whatever cause - that can happen to all of us on any type of machine - I can't really see any problems that would qualify to be called "bugs" of significance with my C1 7.1.1 installation on Windows 7 Pro. Obviously my experiences are very different to those that some people have had and are still having. Presumably there are many people running Macs who are seeing the same positive outcomes that I see on Windows. (I assume that many more C1 users run Macs than Windows machines - it would be the usual case I think.)

If people have strange things going on at this stage it suggests to me that somewhere in the haystack is a needle waiting to be found. The options would seem to be to help with the search or move to a different haystack. Sensible and useful discussions and exchanges of information can be achieved through the use of a forum but are most effective, in my experience, when dealt with calmly and thoughtfully.

I am right with Edward51, Tom1411 and ianmac, et al., on this.

Been waiting for about 18 hours to make quickview jpegs of about 1700 images. This takes Hasselblad Phocus about 10 minutes. When is C1 going to admit that there's something severely wrong with C1 and not only listen to compaints of their users but do something about it.
And perhaps with the release of a future C1 version 8, give a free update to version 7 users that were not able to use the software they paid for in a decent way.
But I guess we will just have to pay again for another future version with the big question mark if we will be able to use it the first year of its release .

Pistol' Check your event window. Does it show that a preview couldn't be created? Chances are that the processing app within Capture has crashed. Restart Capture should fix it. Phocus is liable of the same thing but gives black preview files instead. Ive been embarrassed a couple times when handing over black files to an Art director.

+1 on the preview thumbnails not showing up sometimes.
    to add to this list:
on a tethered shoot, if we un-tether and try to reconnect , the camera isn't recognized. ( 5d mk3 )
    we have to:
    1-turn off the camera
    2-close capture one
    3-restart capture one
    4- restart the camera ..
we have to do this EVERY time we move to another angle or location.

on at least one occasion , shutting down / starting up etc .. the file names changed ..
at first it was showing just the raw file name exactly as it appeared in the camera then,
it had the job name with the raw file naming appended to that.
We didn't change anything .. we just restarted the camera & C1 7.1
( btw this is running on a macbook pro 2011 w/ most recent update of mountain lion )

RE: bug reports & logs .. when a crash occurs is there an option to save the log info for later reporting ?
I can understand people don't want to stop a shoot to gather the log info but couldn't this log data be retrieved later?
( speaking rhetorically since i kinda know the log info is there till it's erased .. basically forever )
It would be important to note the date / time of the crash or problem so that the logs could be referenced for that time / date across the system. ( so .. maybe an option to save the info for later transmission .. or .. a time stamp option for log searching purposes. )
Also, ask a mac expert why it's good to leave your mac on overnight while connected to the internet.
Mac runs this little script sometime through the night that does a little housekeeping.
Maybe the C1 software could have this same capability .. automatic / self-reporting on an opt in/out basis.

and .. not to nit-pick but .. more mention of the keyboard shortcuts in the documentation would be nice.
and .. a printable / downloadable keyboard shortcuts study guide .. ( like they have for Final Cut / Digital Performer / ProTools etc )
for example: are there keyboard shortcuts to switch between cursor tools ? double tapp the A for the arrow tap tap on H for the hand etc ..
I guess it's important to note, I'm new to C1 for version 6 & 7 and i'm acting as an assistant to a few photographers who use C1 7 .. so .. i don't have the app here on this computer to try these things .. I just have the documentation and tutorials to learn from.
That's a little more difficult since the thumbnails in the downloadable documentation don't bring up a full size image when clicked in the manual / documentation .. i've even tried opening the documentation in Safari hoping there would be hot links to the photos on a remote server .. no luck there.

2 things that would help significantly is ..
1- not having to restart camera / C1 when removing and reconnecting a tethered shoot
    2- having stable preview thumbnails

Please update to 7.1.1 and re-try.

    Regarding your questions:
I can't repro your 5dmk3 issues with similar hardware. Can you check your USB cable? Try with another one, just in case. The disconnects on angle changes sounds very much like a loose connection in the wire or in the usb port of the camera.

The logs can be found using the OSX build-in application Console. Look for the ~/Library/logs/. Here you find the CO logs. Also, if you have chosen to send us diagnostics info (which are most helpful to us) we also get some of the stuff from here.

Regarding the keyboard shortcuts, we do have a prinatble one. Go to Help -> Keyboard Shortcut Summery. This opens a browser, and then you can print from here.

Can you elaborate on your "having stable preview thumbnails"-statement? Need some more info on that one.

I'd like to add a few suggestions for others that i've learned from my audio / video recording experience.
    ( and 15 years on macs ) .. 😉

with audio / video, we never serve our files from the same drive that hosts our OS & application.
One drive for OS / apps .. another drive for captured audio or video .. ( or still photos in C1's case )
Preferably a RAID array set to RAID 0 .. of course RAID 0 needs to be backed up since a loss of a single drive looses all data.
for example: in my 8 core mac pro 3,1 i have 1 drive for apps & OS , 2 drives in RAID 0 for data, and another single large hard drive for backup of the RAID 0 array.
and oh .. all these drives .. are NEVER more than half way full .. < IMPORTANT
My 2 TB RAID never exceeds 1TB full .. I always have more free space than used space.
In addition, i have an SSD with a second system OS installed so i always have a working boot drive.
When i worked on custom GUI's back when mac architecture supported that, I had 2 system drives.
The second drive was in 3 partitions with 3 clones of my original drive plus my modifications ( for testing )
I basically had 4 system drives to start from , hence .. never a complete system failure .
One of those drives was setup just for testing new OS & new apps.
Currently i don't have a Snow Leopard main drive and a Lion testing drive because i haven't been enticed to upgrade to Lion or Mountain Lion yet .. I'm waiting for the OS and app companies to work out bugs .. then i'll add a Mountain Lion or Space Lion ( lol ) drive .. ( Space Lion is way in the future btw .. lol )
So, i'm basically agreeing with a previous comment to keep your old system in tact while testing a new system on another drive other than your main work drive.

SuPeR TIP : i would never own a mac without the awesome utility iStat Menus. < LoVe This APP >
Google it .. download it .. customize your menubar .. always included: RAM Memory stats, CPU stats, Temperatures
On my particular machine , it's also important to run smcFanControl to keep RAM at a stable temperature to reduce errors and failure of the RAM.

Speaking of utilities .. Run Disc Utility - Repair Permissions OFTEN ..
I have die hard protocol to run Disc Utility at the change of every season ( Fall , Winter, Spring , Summer )
and .. just about any other time i just happen to think of it .. haha .. it's not possible to Repair Permissions "too often" 😉

All this being said, i've seen some weird things happen to MANY apps when they are run from a SLaM FuLL drive that's handling both the OS & app and file and never / rarely had Repair Permissions run. It's an accident waiting to happen.

Hope some of this helps .. glad to lend a helping hand when i can.

No, to clarify .. it's not always practical to stay tethered while moving lights, computer, camera, tripod etc so,
We temporarily disconnect the tether so we can move everything.
When we try to reconnect the camera by plugging in the USB cable, the camera doesn't show up.
We can only get the camera to show up if we shut down the camera and C1 , then start everything back up in a certain order .. C1 first .. then the camera.

Yes, and you can also use the console to "snip" portions of the log where the load errors are occurring and just send the snippet rather than the entire log , which might be quite lengthy. ( for example i wouldn't post my entire log here in the forum , i would post a portion of the log , as i have done for other problems and assistance for other applications and versions of the OS )

Regarding the keyboard shortcuts, we do have a prinatble one. Go to Help -> Keyboard Shortcut Summery. This opens a browser, and then you can print from here.

    Yes, i "could" do that , IF i had a copy of C1 on my computer .. i don't .. I'm an assistant ..

Can you elaborate on your "having stable preview thumbnails"-statement? Need some more info on that one.

sometimes the thumbnails are empty .. no image at all. The full size image shows in the viewer but the icon is missing in the browser. Someone mentioned re-starting C1 since a module of C1 crashed. Restarting was suggested as a fix to the browser icons / thumbnails. Restarts of C1 didn't seem to fix this problem.

I know we did the update to 7.1 but i'm not sure if we did the 7.1.1 update ..

As mentioned, I'm not at that computer now. I'm assisting the photographer who uses C1
I'll contact her to verify the version number and let you know.

Hi, I have regular issues developing full res tiffs with Capture One 7.1.1. In about 50% of the cases, the software freezes and I have to force close it (sometimes even restart the computer). I use a new Macbook Pro Retina. Is this a known issue and what can I do to fix this?

You really shouldn't have any problem downloading 7.1.1 from the website. Also, a LOT has been fixed and improved since 7.0.2, so please try that first 😊

I have regular issues with Capture One Pro 7. I always send the crash report (with comments) when the application crashes. I have also opened cases but they are always marked as "finished". I never received any answer by the technical support. Is it really normal ❓

It is normal that you do not get replies on crash reports. They are carefully studied, however and they are a great help for improving stability.

Support cases are answered with an acknowledgement of the issue, workaround, tips, additional information request and so on. If you did not receive any email (spam filter?), check status online including replies for each case.

When you make the jump from a lower release version, make sure to create a fresh session. Trying to use an old one created in 7.0.1, 7.0.2, 7.1 seem to have issues from time to time.

It's not really true... I currently have a problem with Capture One, I wrote a case and it passed directly as "finished" without receive any answer 😕

So, your first post on this forum and all you are doing is complaining and thinking you should get your money back.....?

Please tell me that you were not so stupid that you bought C1 Pro 7 without downloading and "trialing" the free.... trial? Only an idiot would pay for software that was offered as a free trial.

Just so you know, my system: C1 Pro 7.1, MacBook Pro 2.3 Core i7, 16gb, two Samsung Pro SSD's (DVD drive removed), Canon 1DX tethered or not, zero crashes with Capture One whether shooting a thousand frames or one frame. No problems, not one.

    What system/camera/specs are you using?

Goodbye Lukee and good luck with Lightroom that "you just gave a talk on....."

And is that the subscription model that Adobe is absolutely clear Lr - which is the only Adobe software relevant to this discussion - won't be part of?

What should i do...let me guess...send a crash report and help phase one to develop a running program? open a support case during my job and try to find the mistake? use another software...still full of bugs this software, i am very disappointed!
