Raw Support for Canon 1D X Mark II

No. They release to predefined timescales. It's pure luck if a given release happens to be within a month of a new camera being released, and whether that release includes a support update for that camera.

It's entirely possible that it won't.

Time for PhaseOne to catch up. I hate that I have to use PhotoShop to edit my images. We need an update ASAP

Did Phase One force you to buy a 1D-X II before it offered support for the camera?

No? Then Phase One doesn't have to do anything except to its own timescales.

    Keith:

You're certainly right that Phase One should update it's products in the way it feels best serves its customers.

At the same time, some customers can make great use of new products. It would be nice if other supporting tools in leadership positions stayed in sync. After all, many of us purchased Capture One to support our Phase backs AND other cameras. Phase wouldn't let C1Pro lag behind the release of one of their new backs. And it's not like this camera is either unexpected or bleeding edge.

We just got our new 1Dx Mark II. The only thing stopping us from using it on commercial shoots is that C1Pro can't handle its files. I encourage Phase to release reliable support soon. I don't think that's unreasonable.

I doubt that Phase need any encouragement to support a mainstream Pro product from a major manufacturer.

However obtaining a production model to assess and analyse may be something that is dictated by availability from the manufacturer and whatever is required in terms of development to provide support for file formats and tethering. This may take a while or might be ready quite early.

It then needs to fit in with whatever release requirements are for other developments - influenced by OS compatibility for both Mac and Windows as well as C1 developments and, of course, whatever work is going on for other camera releases including but not limited to Phase's own camera systems.

I don't think it would be reasonable to expect a release every week or two. Nor desirable.

In any event the requests posted on what is primarily a User to User forum (by intent) would be better made, possibly well in advanced of availability, as Support Cases so that Phase can properly manage and assess them for probable demand.

In the case of Sony (of course), Canon and Nikon it is probably safe to assume that all main market cameras will be supported just as quickly as full release examples can be obtained, measured and tested ready for the support to be included in a release. For tethering this may take a while longer if what is available in camera is significantly different to what has gone before and requires a lot of code adaptations.

One does wonder whether it might be possible to use one's influence as a an early adopter of new cameras to persuade the manufacturers to make sure that they provide Phase with a sample or two to test as early as possible before the release date.

    Um, alrighty then.

To everyone else, thank you for the informative and intelligent replies. They are much appreciated.

Good point about obtaining a production model and then performing thorough testing, which of course needs to be scheduled in around many other competing priorities as well. I'm also thankful that C1P takes the time to highly tune their RAW conversions. The general consensus amongst photographers is that C1P is among the very best RAW converters out there, if not the best. That comes from thorough testing and development, which the C1P engineers do really well.

My guess is that we'll see an update between now and mid-June. Thanks everyone for the conversation as there is always something new to learn here.

    Cheers,
    Bryan
