Workflow integration: Photoshop xmp files, edits. Aperture.
Long ago, I used Capture One Pro 3 and purchased a series of 5 major version updates. So, when I got an email that version 5 was available, I downloaded it. It seems to have accepted my id number and runs.
I skimmed the manual, but can not find any reference to using C5P with raw files which may be used with other programs: photoshop, lightroom or even aperture. I have seen posts here which refer to xmp files, but nothing which answers the following questions:
1) will editing in C5P affect files edited in other programs? Is it necessary to make copies of original RAW files before working in C5P?
2) Will C5P use or work with xmp files?
I suppose you could shorten this question to "will c5p work and play well with other programs"? I haven't used Capature One in a while, and wouldn't mind giving it a try again (since I paid for it) but I have no wish to undo work or file management already done.
Thank you.

Bottom line is that Capture One does not write to the raw files, but treats them as read-only. Hence, other programs should process the image fine after CO. The other way round, raw files that are written to *might* not run (properly) through Capture One. Exceptions are programs that write metadata (during import) like PhotoMechanic. The metadata is recognized and passed through by CO (not always correct, I know, let's say improvements are pending).
Regarding side card files like XMP files or CO's work files, there is currently no exchange of either metadata or adjustments between Capture One and other programs in either direction.
This is currently the state to the best of my knowledge, but sometimes I miss new developments. Other users might fill me in.0
